Wike made this declaration during the inauguration of a five-kilometer road construction project, which will link Naharati, River Ukya, and Unguwan Hausawa communities in Abaji Area Council of the FCT.
The former governor of Rivers State emphasized the importance of expediting processes, urging directors not to linger on files for extended periods. He stressed that a week should suffice for conducting necessary investigations, rather than waiting as long as 20 days before authorizing a project.
Addressing the directors, Wike stated, “Once I grant approvals, the bureaucracy should be able to do its due diligence within seven days and ensure the release of funds. We had a meeting on Monday with the most senior directors, and I was telling them that woe unto that director who will keep a file that I have approved for weeks. Woe unto you because you are a saboteur. Once I approve, do the needful. You can take a week to do due diligence. You don’t need to take 20 days.”
The Nigeria Police Force has clarified that Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Olatunji Disu does not object to citizens recording police officers performing their duties in public places. Force New Media Officer Aliyu Giwa explained that the IGP’s concerns target the misuse of such footage—such as when encounters are deliberately turned into social media skits, used to provoke or ridicule officers, or cause unnecessary intrusion—rather than public scrutiny or accountability. This clarification followed discussions between the police leadership and the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) in Abuja, alongside a March 17 Federal High Court judgment in Warri affirming the legal right of citizens to film police officers on duty. Giwa noted that body cameras remain part of broader conversations around modern policing to ensure transparency and mutual protection. Stressing that technology should not be feared, the police spokesman called for constructive dialogue to balance accountability with institutional responsibility.

This statement comes on the heels of comments made on Thursday by the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, who announced that the NDC would implement a mechanism to relay polling unit tallies directly to its situation room during the 2027 polls. Obi had explained during an interview on Arise Television that this strategy would guarantee accurate data transmission and block the addition of unrecorded figures from polling booths.
However, speaking on Channels Television’s Politics program on Friday, Umeh asserted that Obi’s remarks were misconstrued. He emphasized that the party will merely station agents at polling units to forward legally declared results—recorded on official forms—to the party’s situation room for independent tracking.
Umeh stressed that this setup should not be labeled a parallel system.
“I believe he (Obi) must have been misquoted,” Umeh stated. “What he is trying to say is that the party would have its agents at every polling unit and once the results are collated, declared, and put in the prescribed result form, they will be doing their own collation in the situation room. You must send the results of the polling units to the NDC situation room. INEC has no monopoly of collation of data.”
