A Storied Political Career

Touré was a prominent fixture in Guinean public life for three decades. Appointed as Prime Minister by late President Lansana Conté in July 1996, he served until March 1999. During his tenure as a technocrat, he was widely recognized for implementing fiscal discipline, executing structural economic reforms, and repairing relations with Western creditors and international financial institutions.

Transitioning into civilian opposition after leaving government, Touré assumed leadership of the Union of Republican Forces (UFR) in 2000 and subsequently ran for the presidency in 2010 and 2015.
