The controversy erupted after the National Treasurer of the party, Oluchi Opara, raised concerns about the alleged mismanagement of a substantial sum of N3.5 billion raised from the sale of nomination forms and fundraising activities during the 2023 general elections. Opara’s claims led to her suspension by the party leadership for failing to attend a probe meeting and tarnishing the party’s reputation.

In response, Abure challenged Opara to provide evidence supporting her allegations of fraud. However, Joseph, also a presidential aspirant of the LP, expressed dismay over the corruption allegations, deeming them detrimental to the party’s image.

In a statement released by the National Director of Media and Publicity of the Rescue Movement for New Nigeria, Rev. Emmanuel Olorunmagba, Joseph emphasized the urgent need to address the allegations and salvage the party’s reputation.

Joseph highlighted the importance of conducting a thorough investigation into the allegations to ensure justice is served. He also raised questions about the party’s financial management, particularly regarding the reported expenditure of N744.5 million on election petition tribunal legal fees.

He called for transparency and accountability within the party, stressing that the Labour Party must be rescued from the grip of corruption to fulfill its mission of serving the Nigerian people.
