One such operation led to the arrest of a 42-year-old man suspected of supplying opioids to insurgents in the Banki area of Borno State. Ahmad Mohammed was apprehended at a checkpoint in Bama, where authorities discovered 20,000 capsules of tramadol concealed in his luggage.
In Anambra State, six suspects, including a pregnant woman and a mother of three, were arrested for dealing in illicit substances such as cannabis, tramadol, diazepam, and codeine syrup. Similar raids conducted by NDLEA operatives in parts of the state yielded significant drug seizures.
In Nasarawa State, a truck carrying 4,037 kilograms of cannabis sativa was intercepted based on credible intelligence. Three suspects were arrested in connection with the seizure, highlighting the agency’s commitment to disrupting drug trafficking networks.
Further operations in Lagos resulted in the arrest of individuals involved in drug trafficking, with seizures including cannabis, codeine syrup, rohypnol, and molly. Similar operations in Abuja led to the apprehension of suspects transporting large quantities of compressed cannabis sativa concealed in trucks.
The NDLEA’s efforts extended to Ondo State, where significant drug seizures were made, including cannabis concealed in detergents and water packs. Additionally, operations in Edo, Kano, and other states resulted in the seizure of tramadol pills and cannabis, further underscoring the agency’s nationwide crackdown on drug trafficking.
These successful operations demonstrate the NDLEA’s unwavering commitment to combating drug trafficking and protecting communities from the harmful effects of illicit drugs. The Offense: Prosecutors stated that Thaoban acted as a middleman in 2023, funneling illicit funds to purchase the luxury vehicle, violating the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022.

In a separate proceeding, Justice Aluko also convicted four Bureau de Change (BDC) operators—Umar Muhammad Lamido, Yusuf Musa Yusuf, Abdulmuhimin Mahmud, and Muhammed Musa—for conducting unauthorized foreign exchange transactions outside the official market. Following their guilty pleas, each received a 12-month prison sentence with an option of a ₦100,000 fine.
