NDLEA operatives from the Directorate of Operations and General Investigations (DOGI) intercepted over five kilograms of opioids, including tramadol, pentazocine injections, morphine sulfate, and ketamine, hidden within household items and clothing. This shipment was on its way to the US and UK. Additionally, approximately 250 grams of cocaine, concealed in the soles of custom-made shoes, was intercepted en route to Cyprus.

In a separate operation, Femi Babafemi, the NDLEA’s Director of Media and Advocacy, reported the interception of 440 grams of “Loud,” a potent strain of synthetic cannabis, arriving from Canada at a Lagos logistics company.

On July 10, 2024, in Edo State, NDLEA operatives seized a vehicle with the license plate Abuja GWA 273 DD at Ewu Junction in Esan Central LGA, following credible intelligence. They discovered 3,000 tramadol pills concealed in custard powder containers. The suspect, Aminu Abdullahi, 32, claimed he purchased the drugs in Onitsha, Anambra State, and was transporting them to Mararaba in Abuja for sale.

Further operations included the destruction of 5,429.751 kilograms of cannabis at Ohen Forest, Abudu, Edo State, on July 11, where four suspects—Godday Ariye, Friday Okafor, Obinna Nwosu, and Yusuf Adamu—were arrested. An additional 300 kilograms of cannabis were recovered from Uzzeba Obi Camp in Owan West LGA on July 13.

In Ogun State, a seizure of 2,865 kilograms of cannabis occurred on July 9 at Afami Ibese, with the suspected owner, Umar Ibese, currently at large. In Borno State, 2,455 kilograms of substances used for making Akuskura, a new psychoactive drug, were recovered from a warehouse in Konduga town on July 9. The following day, in Katsina State, 47 kilograms of cannabis were seized from Sabo Sule.

In Lagos, on July 8, NDLEA agents raided a warehouse in VGC, Lekki, recovering 148 cartons of non-medical nitrous oxide, 108 cartons of fast gas cylinders, 134 pieces of balloons, and 109 cartons of infusion chargers. Suliyat Abdulsalam, a female suspect, was arrested in connection with this seizure.

Reacting to these developments, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of NDLEA, praised the efforts of officers across various states for their successful operations. He acknowledged their vital role in reducing drug supply and emphasized the importance of continuing their diligent work.
