The assembly fondly remembered Wigwe, the Chief Executive Officer of Access Holdings, who tragically lost his life in a helicopter crash in the United States alongside his wife, son, and a close associate, Abimbola Ogunbajo.
Addressing the assembly under the topic of ‘Matter of Urgent Public Importance,’ Speaker Mudashiru Obasa expressed profound shock and sorrow over Wigwe’s sudden demise. He recounted his recent interactions with the deceased, highlighting Wigwe’s passion for Nigeria’s progress and development.
Reflecting on Wigwe’s philanthropic contributions, particularly his support for events like the Lagos City Marathon and initiatives like the Wigwe University, Obasa emphasized the importance of sustaining his impactful endeavors.
In their tributes, other lawmakers echoed Obasa’s sentiments, praising Wigwe’s humility and commitment to societal welfare. Hon. Desmond Olusola Elliot emphasized Wigwe’s advocacy against domestic violence, while Hon. Abiodun Tobun recalled the late banker’s easy-going nature and approachability.
As the assembly mourned the loss of Wigwe and his companions, they underscored the enduring significance of honoring his memory by continuing his noble work and contributions to society.
