According to reports, the 31-year-old suspect was apprehended by troops from 93 Battalion under 6 Bridget of the Nigerian Army while attempting to collect ransom money for a kidnapped victim in Taraba.

In a statement issued on Thursday, Lieutenant Oni Olubodunde, the army spokesperson, revealed that Igohia was arrested after receiving the sum of N1.5 million as ransom payment for a victim abducted in the Chanchangi area of Takum Local Government Area in the state.

“It has been ascertained that she is currently wedded to the leader of a violent extremist group operating in southern Taraba. She confessed to being previously married to prominent criminals such as the late Terkibi Gemaga, also known as Mopol, a notorious kidnapper who was eliminated by troops five years ago,” Olubodunde stated.

Furthermore, she disclosed her marital ties to the late Gana Terwase, another infamous criminal who met his demise during a joint special force operation three years ago.

Additionally, the army spokesperson revealed the arrest of a well-known gunrunner, Joshua Dutse Idah, engaged in the illegal trade of arms and ammunition, supplying them to criminals within Taraba State and beyond.

According to Olubodunde, the troops acted on credible intelligence regarding the activities of the arms dealer, leading to his arrest. The 45-year-old suspect was intercepted in Ibbi town of Ibbi Local Government Area while en route to Kaduna State in a blue Volkswagen Sharon vehicle with registration number Rivers SKN-390AA.

Upon interrogation, Dutse confessed to his intention of transporting AK-47 rifles to Katsina State, for which he had received a partial payment of N300,000.

A thorough search of the vehicle yielded the discovery of 1 PK machine gun, 399 rounds of 7.62 mm special ammunition, and 3 AK-47 rifle magazines.

Strategic Partnership Details

  • Formal Agreement: The two agencies signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Friday, July 17, 2026, at the NDLEA headquarters.

  • Operational Integration: The partnership includes provisions for intelligence sharing, coordinated joint operations, officer capacity building, and the exchange of technical resources.

  • Joint Working Committee: A committee will be established to ensure the agreement translates into tangible operational results.

Rationale for Collaboration

  • Shared Criminal Networks: NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), noted that criminal syndicates often engage in both narcotics trafficking and the piracy of creative works, using proceeds from one illicit activity to finance the other.

  • Economic and Social Impact: NCC Director-General, Dr. John Asein, emphasized that organized piracy is a major criminal enterprise that undermines Nigeria’s creative economy, destroys jobs, and weakens national security.

  • Intersecting Supply Chains: Both agencies identified that the same clandestine networks, transportation routes, and financial channels used for drug trafficking are frequently utilized to distribute pirated goods and launder criminal proceeds.

  • Inter-Agency Synergy: The leadership of both organizations highlighted the importance of moving away from isolated operations toward a collaborative model that leverages the specific expertise and intelligence capabilities of each agency.

The initiative aims to more effectively disrupt illegal supply chains, dismantle criminal structures, and protect both the creative sector and the general public from the influence of organized crime.
