The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, has called upon security agencies to conduct comprehensive investigations into the accusations leveled against President Bola Tinubu’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila………CONTINUE READING

Abbas made this plea during a press briefing on Thursday, addressing the prevailing state of the nation.

It’s worth noting that Gbajabiamila has recently been embroiled in corruption allegations, particularly concerning the suspended Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Betta Edu.

In his public statement, Abbas urged Nigerians to refrain from disseminating false information while promoting constructive criticism aimed at fostering accountability among government officials.

However, he emphasized that the allegations against Gbajabiamila could potentially undermine the democratic foundations of the nation.

Abbas stated, “There has been an alarming surge in defamation campaigns on social media platforms, characterized by the deliberate spread of false and deceptive information with the aim of tarnishing the reputation of individuals or organizations. These campaigns often target political adversaries, aiming to discredit their credibility, integrity, and public trust.

“The recent unfounded and baseless accusations against the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, underscore the peril of unregulated and unaccountable social media. Such actions not only erode the integrity of our democracy but also weaken the bonds of our national unity.

“Nevertheless, Femi is just one among millions of Nigerians subjected to cyberbullying and coordinated defamation campaigns on a daily basis. Unfortunately, many victims lack the resources and influence to defend themselves adequately.

“Those of us who have closely collaborated with him for more than a decade can attest to his patriotism and integrity. His willingness to voluntarily subject himself to investigation by all relevant security and law enforcement agencies attests to his uprightness and dignity.

“I implore the security agencies to conduct thorough and expeditious investigations into all the issues raised in his letter to them and to inform the Nigerian public of their findings. If found innocent, these agencies must identify those responsible for the character assassination and ensure they face legal consequences.

“It is regrettable that an individual who has painstakingly built a reputation through dedication and commitment to service should be subjected to unwarranted attacks by unscrupulous elements. The relentless efforts to discredit him for purely political or personal motives, without repercussions, are deeply lamentable.”
