Facing a 10-count charge related to misappropriation and money laundering, the defendants are being prosecuted before a Federal High Court in Abuja.
During cross-examination by defense lawyers A. M Aliyu (SAN) and Nureini Jimoh (SAN), Bananda, the second prosecution witness, was presented with three statements of accounts belonging to the state government. However, he couldn’t recall if the defendants made withdrawals.
Bananda, who initially stated that most withdrawals were made by Hudu Abdusalam, a cashier at the Kogi State House, later claimed uncertainty about the defendants’ withdrawals. When asked to identify Abdusalam among the defendants, he admitted he could not.
Under further examination, Bananda noted that the funds in the accounts, mostly security funds, were withdrawn in tranches of N10 million each, adhering to the Central Bank of Nigeria’s stipulated cash withdrawal limit.
The witness, unsure if the funds were for the security purposes of Kogi State, testified that he did not have that information.
Concluding the cross-examination, the prosecuting lawyer, Rotimi Oyedepo (SAN), announced the intention to call another witness. The trial was adjourned until February 6 for its continuation.
