This initiative aims to bolster joint efforts against terrorism, combat oil theft, and foster legislative diplomacy through strengthened parliamentary relationships. During discussions with a delegation from the French Parliament, Babajimi Benson, the Chairman of the House Committee on Defense, urged France, led by President Emmanuel Macron, to contribute to Nigeria’s efforts in building local security capabilities. Additionally, collaboration is sought to address challenges related to crude oil theft. Benson further sought the French government’s cooperation in addressing gender imbalances within the Nigerian military. In a statement from Musa Krishi, the Special Adviser, Media and Publicity to Speaker Abbas Tajudeen, Benson emphasized the importance of advocating for the reinforcement of diplomatic ties between Nigeria and France through the legislative arms of both countries, utilizing parliamentary friendship groups established by the House.
