The Council stressed the enormity of the tasks ahead, highlighting the need for exceptional patriotism, political sagacity, leadership acumen, and tenacity of purpose to effectively tackle issues such as insecurity, economic revitalization, infrastructure development, job creation, social cohesion, improved standards of living, and national progress.

Yusuf Mamman Dantalle, the National Chairman-elect of IPAC, signed the message, asserting that leaders must concentrate on fulfilling their elected roles without relying on flimsy excuses. The statement emphasized the weighty responsibility of leadership and called on elected public officers to discharge their constitutional duties without fear or favor, delivering on campaign promises to the people.

IPAC characterized the past year as memorable for Nigerians, acknowledging the political tension and uncertainty surrounding the general election, economic challenges exacerbated by the removal of fuel subsidy, devaluation of the naira, and widespread insecurity. Despite these difficulties, the Council commended the resilience of Nigerians who, in the face of adversity, maintained faith in their country.

The statement also revealed that IPAC has established a Peer Review Mechanism to monitor the achievements of elected public officers, ensuring the delivery of democratic dividends to the people nationwide.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by its spokesperson, Dr. Habib Mai Lemo, the movement emphasized that local residents should not be deprived of vital development projects due to political differences.

Key points from the statement include:

  • Suspended Infrastructure: The movement questioned why the Kano State Ministry of Works appears to target and heavily scrutinize projects facilitated by opposition lawmakers, challenging the state to prove that uniform standards are being applied to all constituency projects regardless of political affiliation.

  • Targeted Council Suspensions: Kwankwasiyya also raised alarms over the suspension of three councillors in the Kano Municipal Local Government Area—who have disputed project-related claims against them—as well as two councillors from Tarauni Local Government Area.

  • Political Intimidation: The movement alleged that the council suspensions are politically motivated penalties designed to punish local officials for refusing to defect to the ruling camp, warning that such actions threaten fundamental democratic principles.
