In a petition submitted by the Secretary of Ifon-Orolu Progressive Union Board of Trustees, Jide Akinyooye, on Saturday, the Ifon community claimed that certain villages under its authority were being unlawfully ceded to towns in Oyo State. The petition, obtained by Nivo News, expressed worry that the decisions made by village heads to pledge allegiance to Oyo State towns could incite violent reactions from the Ifon community.

Akinrotoye urged the Osun State Government to promptly address the allegations, highlighting instances where indigenes of Ilobu were installed as chiefs in Ifon-Osun villages, further exacerbating the dispute. He emphasized that the alleged actions were maliciously executed with the knowledge of Chief Ashiru Olatoye Olaniyan, the Baale of Ilobu in Osun State.

According to the petition, the Ifon-Osun community believes that the intention behind these actions is to cause civil disturbances and unlawfully cede territorial boundary land of Osun State to Oyo State. The alleged mission also aims to sabotage the position of the Osun State government before the National Boundary Commission (NBC).

The petition called for an investigation by the Osun State Government and the Inspector General of Police into the Baale of Iranyin in Oyo State and those who purportedly installed village heads within Osun State. The Ifon-Osun community urged legal action against the alleged perpetrators for impersonation under the Chiefs Laws of Osun State.

In response, the Otun Jagun of Ilobu, Adegoke Ogunsola, debunked the allegations, stating that the people of Ilobu who are farmers in Oyo State were rightfully installed as village heads by the Aranhin of Irahin in Surulere Local Government. He clarified that the installations occurred on lands that do not belong to Ilobu and emphasized the absence of problems in that regard.

Nigeria–US Coalition Slams US Lawmaker Over Call To Sack Matawalle.

A coalition of Nigerians in the United States has criticised remarks by US lawmaker Kimberly Daniels calling for the removal of Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, describing her position as ill-informed and detached from Nigeria’s security realities.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

News reports that Daniels made the call in a Facebook post, citing a recent security assessment report which she said raised concerns about Matawalle’s performance and past tenure as governor of Zamfara State. She urged a leadership review within Nigeria’s defence ministry.

In response, the Nigerian-American Coalition for Strategic Stability said the comments risk undermining Nigeria’s sovereignty and misrepresent the complexity of the country’s security challenges.

In a statement signed by its convener, Dr. Maxwell Akarachi, the group argued that insecurity in parts of the country stems from deep-rooted structural issues, cross-border criminal activity, and evolving threats, rather than the actions of a single official.

The coalition said it was concerning that a foreign lawmaker would take such a stance without fully understanding ongoing security efforts, adding that Nigeria has recorded some progress under Matawalle’s watch, including coordinated military operations and improved intelligence sharing.

It also warned against narratives it believes are aimed at weakening public confidence in Nigeria’s defence institutions, stressing that such matters should be addressed through local legal and institutional channels rather than external commentary.

While acknowledging the need for accountability, the group urged that allegations against public officials be handled through due process, not international pressure campaigns.

The coalition further called on international partners to engage Nigeria with accuracy and respect, and urged citizens at home and abroad to support national institutions in the fight against insecurity.
