Nigerians React As Convicted Drug Baron Okenwa Nzewi Loses Multi-Million-Naira Mansion To Federal Government (Details)
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has announced the forfeiture of a multi-million-naira mansion located at K-5A/2 Road 14, Victoria Garden City Estate, Lekki Lagos. The mansion, previously utilized as a clandestine laboratory for the production of methamphetamine by convicted drug baron Okenwa Chris Nzewi, has been relinquished to the Federal Government. According to NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi, Okenwa, along with his associate Sunny Okeh Ukah, was apprehended on July 30, 2022, and subsequently arraigned on four counts at the Federal High Court, Lagos, under charge number FHC/L/527C/2022.
Both individuals pleaded guilty on July 17, 2023, leading to their conviction and respective sentences of four and three years imprisonment, with the option of fines of four million naira (N4,000,000) and three million naira (N3,000,000). Additionally, they were mandated to perform community service for four and three weeks each. Okenwa’s vehicle, marked EKY 496 DJ, was also forfeited to the Federal Government.
In an effort to prevent Okenwa from benefiting from the proceeds of his criminal activities, NDLEA pursued a civil forfeiture charge against the building used as a clandestine laboratory. The Federal High Court in Lagos initially granted an interim forfeiture order that expired on December 6 before the final forfeiture on December 7, 2023.
Meanwhile, NDLEA operatives on patrol along the Owerri-Onitsha expressway in Imo intercepted a way-billed consignment containing 2.287kg of cocaine on December 14. The shipment, concealed in cellophane condoms, was en route from Lagos to Port Harcourt, Rivers State. A suspect, Isaac Okoh, aged 45, was apprehended.
In a separate incident, NDLEA operatives in Lagos arrested a 75-year-old woman, Mrs. Sekinat Soremekun, on December 15, for engaging in illicit drug activities. At the time of her arrest in the Oshodi area of Lagos, quantities of cannabis and liters of codeine syrup were recovered from her.

Speaking during an Arise Television interview, Otti maintained that he has opposed the fuel subsidy for years, arguing that subsidizing consumption fosters waste, strains government finances, and encourages careless usage since consumers do not bear the full cost.
