BREAKING: Police-Command Enforce Ban On Firecrackers Ahead Of Christmas Celebrations (Details)

In an announcement delivered by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, on Sunday via X, Enugu Commissioner of Police CP Kanayo Uzuegbu emphasized that the ban remains “in full force” and warned both sellers and users of fireworks to “immediately desist.”
CP Uzuegbu underscored the perils associated with detonating explosives such as knockout bangers and firecrackers, including aiding criminal activities, causing injuries, and sparking fire incidents.
Emphasizing the increased risk during the dry harmattan season, the CP noted the potential of fireworks to facilitate crime, heighten tension, and present hazards to human life and property.
CP Uzuegbu issued a stern warning that “violators would face the full weight of the law” and urged parents to prevent children from purchasing or igniting fireworks.
To ensure stringent security measures during the Christmas season, the CP directed Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), and Tactical Unit leaders to “strictly enforce the ban” and ensure foolproof security in their respective areas.
He asserted, “We will not tolerate any security breaches in their jurisdictions.”
In extending season’s greetings, the CP wished Enugu citizens “a merry Christmas and a prosperous new year” while urging vigilance and prompt reporting of criminal activities through emergency hotlines or emails, emphasizing the importance of cooperation for a safe, peaceful, and enjoyable holiday for all residents of Enugu.
