News reports that Daniels made the call in a Facebook post, citing a recent security assessment report which she said raised concerns about Matawalle’s performance and past tenure as governor of Zamfara State. She urged a leadership review within Nigeria’s defence ministry.

In response, the Nigerian-American Coalition for Strategic Stability said the comments risk undermining Nigeria’s sovereignty and misrepresent the complexity of the country’s security challenges.

In a statement signed by its convener, Dr. Maxwell Akarachi, the group argued that insecurity in parts of the country stems from deep-rooted structural issues, cross-border criminal activity, and evolving threats, rather than the actions of a single official.

The coalition said it was concerning that a foreign lawmaker would take such a stance without fully understanding ongoing security efforts, adding that Nigeria has recorded some progress under Matawalle’s watch, including coordinated military operations and improved intelligence sharing.

It also warned against narratives it believes are aimed at weakening public confidence in Nigeria’s defence institutions, stressing that such matters should be addressed through local legal and institutional channels rather than external commentary.

While acknowledging the need for accountability, the group urged that allegations against public officials be handled through due process, not international pressure campaigns.

The coalition further called on international partners to engage Nigeria with accuracy and respect, and urged citizens at home and abroad to support national institutions in the fight against insecurity.

The decision was announced on Wednesday by the State Civil Service Commission through its Information Officer, Saleh Umar, who said the action was based on misconduct linked to negligence while performing an assigned task.

Abdullahi, a clerical assistant with the Ministry of Higher Education, was reportedly assigned an additional duty outside his official role to convey a team of journalists covering activities of the North East Development Commission during a project commissioning in Alkaleri Local Government Area.

During the assignment, the vehicle he was driving was involved in a crash that affected over 10 journalists. Two persons died in the accident, while others sustained varying degrees of injuries.

The commission said his conduct violated the Bauchi State Public Service regulations on duty and responsibility, leading to his dismissal after recommendations from the Ministry of Higher Education and approval by the State Executive Council.

It also directed the ministry’s management to explain why a non-professional driver was assigned such responsibility in the first place.

Bwala spoke during an interview on Arise Television, where he addressed questions about the video and the current performance of the power sector under the Tinubu administration.

He said the president’s statement should be viewed within the context of his ongoing first term, stressing that it is too early to judge promises tied to a possible second term.

According to him, the administration has already begun implementing reforms in the power sector, including policy decisions and new legislative measures aimed at improving electricity supply.

He maintained that progress is ongoing and that the focus should be on what has been achieved so far rather than expectations for future electoral outcomes.

Bwala added that Nigerians will ultimately decide at the appropriate time whether the president deserves another term based on his overall performance.

“The president has not even come to the point of second term. We are still in the first term, and reforms are ongoing, including new laws and sectoral changes,” he said.

He further argued that the electorate will make their judgment when the time comes, based on the results delivered by the administration.
