The arraignment follows an earlier announcement by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) that El-Rufai would be brought before the court on March 24, 2026.

Multiple Charges Filed

The case, filed under suit number FHC/KD/73/2026, involves several alleged corruption-related offences.

According to the charge details, El-Rufai faces allegations including conversion and possession of public property, money laundering, abuse of office, fraud, intent to commit fraud, and conferring undue advantage.

Security around the court was significantly increased ahead of the proceedings. Operatives from the Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Police Force, Mobile Police, and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps were strategically deployed.

The court, located in the old Nigerian Defence Academy area, saw heightened security checks as early as 7 a.m. Vehicular movement was restricted, with motorists limited to a single lane from Ungwan Sarki through Kawo, causing early morning traffic congestion and delays.

The ICPC confirmed that the arraignment would take place before the Federal High Court in Kaduna. News reports that the incident, which occurred on April 9, 2026, claimed the lives of the senior officer and several other soldiers.

A family source told Vanguard that the General was speaking with his identical twin brother, who resides in the United Kingdom, at the time of the attack.

According to the source, the twins maintained a daily routine of speaking around midnight, but the conversation took a sudden turn that night when unusual activity was noticed at the General’s end.

The twin brother reportedly made repeated attempts to reconnect, sending messages and calling continuously, but received no response throughout the night.

“He kept trying until about 4 am, but there was no answer,” the source said.

The family later confirmed the tragedy after a senior military officer contacted them around 6:30 am, informing them that the base had come under attack and that the Brigade Commander was among those killed.

The late General was later buried alongside other fallen soldiers in Maiduguri, Borno State.
