Breaking: Senate Witnesses Commotion After Akpabio Appoints PDP’s Ngwu As Chief Whip (Details)

Sen. Okechukwu Ezea from Enugu North objected to the nomination, with his personal opposition supported by Sen. Tony Nwoye of the Labour Party. Both senators raised concerns about the disproportionate allocation of three minority leadership slots to the PDP, leaving the Labour Party without representation in the Senate leadership.
After a heated debate, the Senate President upheld the majority decision, which favored the PDP for the position of Senate Minority Whip. Ngwu replaces Labour Party’s Sen. Darlington Nwokwocha, who represented Abia Central district until his removal by the Court of Appeal in Lagos on November 4.
In the same session, Akpabio also announced Abba Moro, the lawmaker representing Benue South, as the new Minority Leader of the Senate. Moro replaces Sen. Simon Nwadkwon from Plateau North, who was ousted by the court on October 23.
Meanwhile, the Senate called on the Federal Government to immortalize the late Pa Taiwo Akinkunmi, the designer of the national flag who passed away on August 29, 2023. After a motion by Sen. Sharafadeen Abiodun representing Oyo South, the lawmakers observed a moment of silence and urged the government to conduct a state burial in his honor for his role in the design of the national flag.
