In addition, Tinubu commended the incumbent president, George Weah, for gracefully conceding defeat and preventing any potential socio-political crisis following the election results. According to Tinubu, Weah’s actions showcase exceptional leadership.

The statement, titled “President Tinubu congratulates Liberians and commends President Weah’s leadership following the presidential election,” was released on Saturday and signed by the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale.

Local media in Liberia reported that President Weah was defeated in the second round of voting during the presidential election held on Tuesday. Boakai, the candidate of the Unity Party, secured the lead with 814,212 votes compared to Weah’s 785,778 votes from the ruling party, Coalition for Democracy Change.

Tinubu lauded the people of Liberia for successfully conducting the polls and praised Weah’s demonstration of democratic sportsmanship. He emphasized the significance of peaceful transitions of power, particularly during a time when democracy in West Africa faces challenges from those seeking to undermine the people’s will.

Tinubu expressed his appreciation for the citizens of Liberia for exercising their rights peacefully and encouraged them to remain steadfast in upholding peace and democracy.
