In a statement released on Saturday and signed by Chibuikem Diala, the Director of Media and Publicity for the Senator Athan Achonu Campaign Organisation, the opposition party raised concerns about what they perceive as an intentional denial of access to crucial election documents.

The statement expressed dismay at what they described as “mischievous plans” by the Imo State INEC, led by Prof. Sylvia Agu, to hinder their legal team’s access to the requested CTCs. The party highlighted that an official request had been made to the State INEC Office on November 15, 2023, and called attention to the urgency of the matter.

The statement questioned the motives behind the delay and emphasized the importance of a prompt response, urging INEC to fulfill its legal obligations without further delay. It also raised concerns about potential tampering with sensitive materials during the delay and called on the national chairman of INEC, as well as security agencies, to address the situation.

The Labour Party asserted its commitment to pursuing justice in the electoral process and called on INEC and security agencies to ensure the timely release of the requested certified true copies. The statement concluded with a warning to those attempting to disrupt the electoral process, assuring that the people of Imo State would not be denied the opportunity to choose their leader.
