Among these stakeholders is Danjuma Usman Shiddi, a former representative of the Wukari/Ibi federal constituency in the House of Representatives, who has raised allegations of widespread irregularities throughout the state’s electoral process.
Shiddi, who contends that no election took place in Wukari council, is urgently advocating for the immediate cancellation of the entire exercise. The APC member, having previously contested the election for the Southern Taraba senatorial district in the last general election without success, asserts that the council election’s integrity has been compromised by certain government officials in the state. He further claims that the APC is abstaining from participation due to suspicions that results have already been predetermined.
Earlier, Taraba State APC chairman, Ibrahim Tuktur El-Sudi, had sounded the alarm over alleged irregularities in the election, branding the exercise as a “sham.” El-Sudi, in addition to calling for the immediate cancellation of the ongoing process, advocated for a referendum to empower the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) with the responsibility of conducting council elections nationwide.
Expressing his dismay at the conduct of the election, the chairman alleged the absence of election result sheets in a majority of the polling units.
