The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has reported that air transport fares experienced an 8.70% annual increase, rising from N72,690.54 in September 2022 to N79,013.48 in September 2023. This information is detailed in the NBS publication titled “Transport Fare Watch for September 2023.”

As per the data, the document indicates, “In the realm of air travel, the average fare paid by air travelers for specified routes in a single journey was N79,013.48 in September 2023, demonstrating no significant variation from the fare paid in the preceding month. On a year-on-year basis, the fare surged by 8.70% from N72,690.54 in September 2022.

The report further elaborates that the “Transport Fare Watch for September 2023” encompasses several categories, including bus journeys within the city per drop on a constant route, bus journeys intercity (state route) per person, airfare for specified routes in a single journey, motorcycle (Okada) journeys per drop, and waterway passenger transport.

The NBS also disclosed that the average fare paid by commuters for bus journeys within the city per drop recorded a marginal increase of 0.11%, climbing from N1,336.38 in August to N1,337.80 in September 2023. On a year-on-year basis, the bureau noted a substantial rise of 117.29% from N615.69 in September 2022.

In another category, the average fare paid by travelers for intercity bus journeys per drop decreased to N5,917.16 in September 2023, indicating a slight 0.02% decline on a month-on-month basis in comparison to N5,918.18 in August 2023. However, on a year-on-year basis, the fare showed a noteworthy increase of 56.12% from N3,790.06 in September 2022.

The Osun State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has responded to claims by Governor Ademola Adeleke that local government officials under the party diverted about ₦300 billion meant for workers’ salaries.

Adeleke had made the allegation during a stakeholders’ meeting, accusing APC-controlled council officials of hijacking funds and forcing the state government to shoulder salary payments for local government workers, teachers, health staff, and pensioners for over a year.
