A fugitive with a warrant for his arrest in Kano, Abba Barakita, voluntarily turned himself in to the police.
The Kano State Police command officially verified this in a statement released on Thursday evening, affirming that Barakita was one of forty (40) other hooligans who handed themselves over to the police department.
According to the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the wanted criminal not only expressed remorse but also persuaded 40 of his associates to surrender. He added that the reformed thugs had also given up their weapons.
He clarified that as a result of these developments, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Mohammed Usaini Gumel, had ordered the proper profiling and rehabilitation of the reformed thugs.
The Kano State Police Command had declared Barakita and two other thugs as wanted in August 2023.
The wanted individuals are Barakita of Dorayi Quarters, Nasir Abdullahi, also known as Chile Maidoki of Layin Falwaya Kurna Makabarta Quarters, and Hantar Daba of Kwanar Disu. Nasir Abdullahi had already surrendered himself to the command.
However, on Thursday, Barakita surrendered to the command and declared his renunciation of the alleged thuggery for which he is accused.
Rivers State Police Command Parades Skit Maker and Murderer of UNIPORT Student
Meanwhile, the Rivers State Police command has affirmed the reports regarding the murder of a 300-level student of the University of Port Harcourt, Justina Otuene, by her 400-level student boyfriend from the same institution, Demain Okoligwe.
The partner of the 300-level undergraduate from the Department of Biological Chemistry, Collins, was detained following the discovery of Otuene’s remains in his residence along NTA Road, Mgbuoba, in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.
Presenting the suspect before the media on October 26, the Commissioner of Police for the state, CP Nwonyi Emeka, disclosed that operatives from the Ozuoba Division had received a complaint from a neighbor who reported detecting a strong foul odor. The neighbor immediately informed the police station, and the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) led detectives to the location.
He stated, “Upon arrival, the door was forcefully opened, and a Ghana must-go bag containing a lifeless body was recovered and brought back to the station.”
CP Emeka went on to explain that they had recovered the lifeless and mutilated body of Justina Otuene, a 20-year-old biochemistry student in her 300-level at Uniport. The body was placed in the mortuary.
He added that an initial investigation is currently underway, and the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a more thorough inquiry.
CP Emeka expressed condolences to the victim’s family and urged young women to be vigilant and cautious in their relationships with individuals.

-
Economic and Social Impact: NCC Director-General, Dr. John Asein, emphasized that organized piracy is a major criminal enterprise that undermines Nigeria’s creative economy, destroys jobs, and weakens national security.
-
Intersecting Supply Chains: Both agencies identified that the same clandestine networks, transportation routes, and financial channels used for drug trafficking are frequently utilized to distribute pirated goods and launder criminal proceeds.
-
Inter-Agency Synergy: The leadership of both organizations highlighted the importance of moving away from isolated operations toward a collaborative model that leverages the specific expertise and intelligence capabilities of each agency.
The initiative aims to more effectively disrupt illegal supply chains, dismantle criminal structures, and protect both the creative sector and the general public from the influence of organized crime.
