Nigerians React As Opposition Party Members Respond To Supreme Court Ruling On Presidential Election, Seek Divine Intervention....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Members of the main opposition parties, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party (LP), have reacted to the Supreme Court’s decision upholding President Bola Tinubu’s victory in the February 25, 2023 presidential election.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Tinubu the winner of the election on March 1. However, the second and third-place candidates, Atiku and Obi, contested the results and called for the annulment of the election, citing allegations of extensive election fraud and Vice President Kashim Shettima’s supposed ineligibility to run for the presidency.

The Presidential Election Petitions Court (PEPC) on September 6, led by Justice Haruna Tsammani, dismissed the petitions seeking to overturn the presidential election results and confirmed Tinubu’s victory. The PEPC held that Atiku and Obi failed to substantiate their claims against Tinubu and INEC.

Unsatisfied with the PEPC’s ruling, Atiku and Obi proceeded to the Supreme Court to appeal their case against President Bola Tinubu’s election.

On Thursday, October 26, the Supreme Court in Abuja delivered its final verdict on the legal challenges brought by the PDP and LP, along with their presidential candidates Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, who alleged that Tinubu’s victory was tainted by irregularities.

Justice John Okoro, leading a seven-man panel of the Supreme Court, upheld the decision of the election petition court, affirming Tinubu as the duly elected President of Nigeria.

In response to the Supreme Court’s ruling, Marti Acka, Head of Zege Mule Campaign Organisation for Atiku, expressed that the PDP would seek divine intervention, despite the matter being concluded in the highest human court in Nigeria. She stated that they would appeal to the Almighty to overturn the ruling and deliver justice.

Similarly, Dickson Iroegbu of the Labour Party expressed disappointment over the apex court’s judgment and said that party members would turn to God for a remedy to their electoral grievances. Iroegbu highlighted concerns about the credibility of the election results and expressed a commitment to nation-building.

He warned against dragging the state into fresh tension, accusing the state government of attempting to revive old allegations for political advantage.

Adewara said the PDP would not remain silent while what he called “political narratives” are used to influence public perception around a tragic incident that claimed multiple lives in Offa in 2018.

He also urged residents, especially affected families, not to allow their pain to be used for political gains, insisting it is unjust to associate Saraki with the crime.
