The Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) has introduced additional measures to support the implementation of the federal government’s Eight-Point Agenda on employment and social security. One of these measures involves transitioning from an Annual Performance Review (APER) to a Performance Management System (PMS).
Speaking at the New Performance Management System Implementation Workshop for NSITF heads of department, regional and branch managers, and select staff in Abuja, the Managing Director of NSITF, Maureen Allagoa, emphasized the need for the agency to enhance its efforts in light of the growing challenges in the world of work to effectively align with the federal government’s social security objectives.
Allagoa stated, “Of the eight-point agenda of the Federal Government, poverty eradication, job creation, and growth are directly related to labor and employment. As a key agency of the Ministry of Labour, NSITF plays a central role in ensuring that these national goals are achieved.”
She highlighted the importance of the Employee Compensation Program in developing a resilient national workforce, essential for productivity, growth, and social inclusion.
Allagoa explained that the NSITF must refine its operations to better align with effective performance evaluation. The organization is embracing the Performance Management System (PMS) as an improved and more pragmatic approach for assessing employee performance. This system will enable the tracking of productivity at individual, team, and organizational levels in real-time.
The automation of processes will enhance assessment, data management, analysis, and performance evaluation. Allagoa acknowledged the Minister of Labour and Employment, Simon Lalong, for initiating the adoption and implementation of the PMS, which will drive the NSITF’s efficiency and productivity.
She encouraged NSITF heads and employees to take an active role in implementing the PMS in their respective areas of responsibility to ensure that the fund fully benefits from this performance evaluation system.
