Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has advocated for the establishment of specific constitutional roles for deputy governors in Nigeria to keep them engaged and avoid unnecessary conflicts between governors and their deputies. He made this call during the annual conference of the Forum of Former Deputy Governors of Nigeria (FFDGN) in Abuja, which had the theme, “Partnering in the shared vision for good governance and sustainable development.” Represented by Mr. Emma Eneukwu, the APC Deputy National Chairman, South, Ganduje emphasized the need to assign constitutional duties to deputy governors to prevent clashes.

In his remarks, former Attorney General of the Federation, Chief Kanu Agabi, urged political leaders to prioritize patriotism in their actions and emphasized that the Nigerian Constitution is fundamentally sound, though it requires adherence. He called for respect for the constitution, the nation’s history, and unity among Nigerians. Agabi also appealed for the release of dissidents in detention to contribute to national development.

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Sen. George Akume, urged governors to delegate relevant roles to their deputies, fostering a sense of inclusion. He called for a shared national vision among the federal government, state governments, and local governments, focusing on critical projects for the benefit of the people.

Gov. AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara and Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) encouraged current and former governors and deputies to collaborate for nation-building, recognizing their valuable contributions.

The Chairman of the Forum of Former Deputy Governors, Mr. Chris Akomas, pledged the forum’s commitment to enhancing Nigeria’s democratic process, eliminating conflicts between governors and their deputies, and compiling a book on their experiences in office to provide insights and solutions for the public.

The match began with an immediate impact from Arsenal, as Kai Havertz capitalized on a pass from Leandro Trossard to put the London club ahead within the first six minutes. Arsenal maintained their lead for much of the first half, successfully frustrating the French champions.

The momentum shifted in the 63rd minute when a VAR review resulted in a penalty for PSG. Ousmane Dembélé stepped up to the spot and converted two minutes later, bringing the score level at 1-1. Despite intense efforts from both sides during the remainder of regulation and throughout extra time, neither team could find a winning goal.

The title was ultimately decided by penalties. In the shootout, PSG held their nerve, with Lucas Beraldo converting their final spot-kick. With Arsenal needing to score to force sudden death, defender Gabriel Magalhães sent his effort over the bar, sealing a 4-3 victory for the French side.

This triumph marks a historic achievement for PSG, who become the first French club to win the UEFA Champions League title in two consecutive seasons, having defeated Inter Milan 5-0 in the 2025 final.
