The Managing Director of Optimal Cancer Care Foundation, Femi Olaleye, has been sentenced to life imprisonment by the Special Offences and Domestic Violence Court in Lagos for sexually assaulting his wife’s niece. The presiding judge, Rahman Oshodi, delivered the ruling on Tuesday, finding Olaleye guilty of two charges: defilement of a child and sexual assault through penetration. The judge ordered that Olaleye serve a life sentence for both counts, with the sentences running concurrently.

This doctor had been accused of sexually abusing a minor, who was identified as his wife’s niece, for a period spanning over 20 months. Olaleye was formally charged by the Lagos state government in November 2022, facing two counts of child defilement and sexual assault through penetration. Throughout the trial, Aderemi, Olaleye’s estranged wife, testified in court, revealing that her husband had introduced the underage victim to pornography and engaged in oral sex with her.

Aderemi, who had been married to Olaleye for 11 years and had two children with him, expressed her regret about her husband’s sexual abuse of her niece, which she claimed to have been unaware of. She further disclosed that her husband had been administering medication to her every night, alleging that it was to prevent blood clots as she was approaching the age of 50.
