Katsina State Governor, Dikko Radda, has disclosed that his administration has uncovered traditional leaders allegedly complicit in aiding and abetting banditry within the state. He asserted his commitment to dealing decisively with any traditional leader or cabinet member found to be supporting or sponsoring bandits.

Speaking during a press conference in Abuja regarding the establishment of the state’s security outfit, the Community Watch Corps, Governor Radda revealed that the state is in discussions with the federal government to explore potential reforms allowing citizens, especially members of state security agencies, to acquire advanced weapons like AK-47 for self-defense.

Governor Radda emphasized the persistent challenge of insurgency, describing it as a complex problem that prompted the creation of the Community Watch Corps to complement the efforts of conventional security agencies in combating banditry.

Regarding the traditional rulers allegedly collaborating with bandits, he stated, “As I speak to you, there are some traditional rulers that have been identified and those ones are already under scrutiny. We are not sparing anybody. I’m telling you that even my commissioners or anybody found to be involved in any criminal activity won’t be spared.”

Governor Radda stressed the importance of protecting the lives of the people of Katsina and gathering information and intelligence in collaboration with the Department of State Services (DSS) to arrest and prosecute those found guilty.

In reference to discussions with the federal government about arming citizens, he argued that if criminals could easily acquire sophisticated weapons like AK-47 and RPG, citizens should also have the right to protect themselves.
