The Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno Calls For Reconciliation In Dispute Over Ibibio Monarch’s Title
The Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno Calls For Reconciliation In Dispute Over Ibibio Monarch’s Title....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has appealed to royal leaders from various ethnic groups, including Annang, Oro, and the Obolos, to seek a peaceful resolution and withdraw the court case related to the creation of the title of “president-general” for the Ibibio monarch, Ntenyin Solomon Etuk. The introduction of this law empowers the traditional institution to operate as an absolute monarchy in the state.
The contentious bill aimed to amend specific sections of the Traditional Rulers’ Law (TRC) was submitted to the House of Assembly by the state government. It sought to establish the new title of “President-General for life” for Etuk, similar to the northern emirs, Yoruba Obas, Obi of Onitsha, Obong of Calabar, and the Oni of Ife.
During an extended meeting of traditional leaders from minority ethnic nationalities, including Annang, Oro, and the Obolos, these aggrieved monarchs resolved to boycott any activities convened by Ntenyin Etuk and threatened to impose traditional sanctions on those who defy their order.
The paramount ruler of Etim Ekpo LGA, Prof Amanam Udo, expressed discontent regarding the use of political means to establish a traditional title for one segment of the state, at the expense of others. He vowed that they would tirelessly work to have the law repealed and the matter addressed.
Governor Eno addressed these traditional rulers in the Government House’s Exco Chambers in Uyo, the state capital. He emphasized the importance of resolving the ongoing court case to pave the way for negotiations and peace, working towards unity and understanding among the different ethnic groups in the state. The governor called on all parties to engage in objective discussions to reach solutions that benefit not only the present but future generations as well.
