Prof. Khalid Adekoya, President of UMA, expressed gratitude for the steadfast support of the alumni. He highlighted the theme of the AGM, “Re-thinking Entrepreneurship in a Changing Economic Landscape,” as a crucial component in exploring diverse income generation avenues and achieving self-sufficiency.
Adekoya reported on the achievements of his cabinet since assuming office a year ago, emphasizing the continuity of prior accomplishments and their ongoing efforts to foster the association’s growth and development.
Speaking on the theme, Dr. Ayodele Ibrahim Shittu, a senior lecturer in the Department of Economics at the University of Lagos, underscored the significance of entrepreneurship in light of Nigeria’s economic challenges. He emphasized entrepreneurship as a means for Nigerians to address financial difficulties and advocated for exploring profitable business opportunities, intrapreneurship through value addition in the workplace, and extrapreneurship involving the identification of business ideas and engaging investors.
To promote their members’ well-being, the alumni conducted free medical check-ups and organized a health enlightenment session. Dr. Maridheeyah Olokodana-Adesalu, UMA Welfare Officer II, encouraged members to prioritize regular health screenings, highlighting their importance in maintaining good health, even amidst the pursuit of livelihoods.
