Osita Ngwu, the Senator representing Enugu West senatorial zone, has expressed his discomfort, along with other Southeast senators, regarding the allocation of five ministerial appointments to the region.
Senator Ngwu emphasized that he and his colleagues remain committed to advocating for additional ministerial positions for the Southeast. He made these comments during a conversation with journalists in Enugu.

He mentioned that they firmly believe President Bola Tinubu will sensitively consider their request for more ministerial slots. However, he stressed that their approach would be one of dialogue rather than confrontation to achieve their desired goal.
Ngwu underlined that the senators have decided that the Southeast should no longer be marginalized but treated with fairness. He lamented the fact that some other regions have as many as 10 ministerial slots while the Southeast has been allocated only five.
He stated, “His Excellency Senator Akpabio is a man who follows through with his commitments. We have no doubt that he will intervene, as he assured us he would, by discussing the issue with President Bola Tinubu to rectify this injustice. We perceive it as an injustice to the Southeast, and we have voiced our concerns.”
Ngwu also indicated that they would patiently await the feedback from the Senate president regarding their request. He reiterated their determination to continue advocating for the Southeast to receive its fair representation in Nigeria.
He added, “Some regions have 10 ministers, while in the Southeast, we have only five. We consider this a grave injustice, but we will continue to negotiate and engage in dialogue.”
Ngwu pointed out that while Nigeria operates under a constitutional framework, there is room for sentiments to influence decisions, and they are appealing to the government to consider the regional sentiment regarding ministerial appointments in addition to meeting constitutional requirements. Their aim is to ensure that all regions feel included in the governance of the country.
