Nigerians Reaction To Government’s Denial Of Fuel Subsidy Restoration....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

On Monday, October 9, the federal government dismissed claims suggesting that Nigeria had reinstated the subsidy on premium motor spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol.

President Bola Tinubu had, during his inauguration as President on May 29, declared the effective end of the subsidy system. However, the removal of fuel subsidy has resulted in significant economic consequences, leading to protests by organized labor groups.

Recently, the Tinubu administration reached an agreement with labor organizations, which included the implementation of certain relief measures and a temporary wage increase.

Oil marketers and a portion of organized labor have alleged that the government has reversed its stance and reinstated the subsidy. They argue that despite fluctuations, the stability of fuel pump prices is unexplained without the subsidy.

In response to questions from journalists at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, after a meeting with President Tinubu, the Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Mele Kyari, stated unequivocally that there is no fuel subsidy in place.

He stated, “I told you there’s no subsidy whatsoever; we are recovering our full cost from the products that we import. We sell to the market, we understand why the marketers are unable to import. We hope that they do this very quickly and these are some of the interventions the government is doing. There is no subsidy.”

In light of this, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has tasked the new commissioner with the critical mission of restoring public trust and ensuring strict impartiality in policing across the state as it navigates post-election tensions. During a courtesy visit in Osogbo shortly after Zungura assumed office, Governor Adeleke, in a statement by his spokesperson Olawale Rasheed, urged the new CP to reorganize the command, improve police-community relations, and take decisive steps to correct behaviors that have led to perceptions of partisanship within the force.

“I therefore have specific requests as part of our efforts to consolidate peace and state reconciliation: Let us rebuild public trust in the police. You must make deliberate efforts to remove many areas of current police conduct that paint it as partisan and anti-people,” Governor Adeleke stated.
