Man Mummified For Over A Century: After 128 Years, Stoneman Willie To Finally Receive Burial
Man Mummified For Over A Century: After 128 Years, Stoneman Willie To Finally Receive Burial....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

An alleged thief who passed away in prison, subsequently mummified, and kept at a funeral home will finally receive a burial ceremony after 128 years. The true identity of the man, known as “Stoneman Willie” in death, will now be revealed and inscribed on his tombstone.
Stoneman Willie died in November 1895, and his body has remained at the same funeral home in Reading, Pennsylvania ever since. On Saturday, his body will be given its final rites and conveyed in a procession to the nearby Forest Hills Memorial Park for burial. He will be dressed in a tuxedo appropriate for a gentleman of the 1895 era.
The preservation of Stoneman Willie’s body was a result of experimental arterial embalming conducted by Theodor Auman, a mortician at the time. The technique, relatively new in the late 19th century, was used to preserve bodies, replacing the practice of storing corpses on ice until burial.
Local historian George M. Meiser XI revealed that nobody claimed the body, so Auman kept it to assess the effectiveness of his embalming technique. Over the years, Stoneman Willie’s body became a local curiosity and was affectionately referred to as “our friend Willie” by the funeral home staff.
The embalming technique has remarkably preserved the body, although its skin has darkened considerably since the 1950s. Willie’s true identity remained a mystery for over a century. At the time of his death, he refused to disclose his real name to avoid disgracing his family.
According to Meiser, the body belonged to an alleged thief who provided the false name of James Penn when arrested for theft in West Reading, Pennsylvania, in October 1895. Willie died the following month after battling “gastritis” and “acute uramia,” likely due to advanced alcoholism.
After 128 years, Stoneman Willie will finally find rest with a proper burial, marking the end of his long vigil.
