Bitrus further revealed that as a consequence of the attack, the local community decided to cancel the previously planned activities for commemorating Nigeria’s 63rd anniversary.

In response to this tragic event, the community transformed the originally scheduled events for Monday (today) into a day of mourning and prayer, with the primary focus being on the safety and protection of the residents.

Expressing the community’s sorrow, Bitrus stated, “We deeply regret that, while others are celebrating Nigeria’s 63rd independence, we are gathering in Kwal to lay our fellow citizens to rest. As a community, we had initially intended to mark Nigeria’s 63rd independence celebration today (Monday) with various festivities, but we have since abandoned those plans. Instead, we have turned the occasion into a day of prayer dedicated to the safety and security of our communities.”

The youth leader called upon authorities at all levels of government to take immediate action to prevent further attacks on Bassa communities.
