He stated, “Despite the significant uncertainties and apparent difficulties that citizens of Nigeria are currently facing due to persistent leadership failures over 63 years of nationhood, the situation may be critical, but it is by no means without hope.”
Obi pointed out that the primary reason Nigerians continue to grapple with poor governance and poverty after 63 years is that successive administrations, through policies, actions, and inactions, have attempted to stifle conscientious individuals to maintain their hold on power.
He remarked, “A fundamental issue remains the consensus among the elite regarding the direction and structure of the nation.”
“If the input is of poor quality, the output will also be of poor quality,” he noted.
Obi continued, “Every nation essentially determines its own destiny and fate and gets the leadership it deserves. Nigeria cannot be an exception. If we accept subpar leadership, then we must face the accompanying consequences.”
Obi also asked, “At 63 years, what kind of questions are Nigerians posing to their leaders, and what kind of answers do we expect?”
“If, at 63 years, we cannot conduct an election that allows the people’s will to prevail, what kind of nation are we aspiring to?”
He expressed hope that a new Nigeria is attainable and emphasized that the responsibility rests with Nigerians to reclaim their country from those involved in state capture.
Obi concluded by extending his best wishes for Nigeria’s independence anniversary and praying for God’s continued mercy and favor on the nation.
