The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has announced that the owners of 149 seized vehicles, along with 100 tricycles and motorcycles in the FCT, will be summoned to a mobile court to answer for various traffic violations.
Abdulateef Bello, the Director of the FCTA Directorate of Road Traffic Services (commonly known as Vehicles Inspection Officers or VIO), made this declaration in Abuja on Friday following an inspection of the impounded vehicles.
Mr. Bello, during his visit to several VIO Commands where the impounded vehicles, tricycles, and motorcycles were stored, emphasized that those responsible would face substantial penalties for their infractions.

He listed the offenses, which included unauthorized parking, driving against traffic, operating unregistered and unpainted taxis, and the operation of illegal motor parks.
Mr. Bello urged compliance with traffic regulations and advised that it was more cost-effective to abide by simple rules and regulations.
“We have advised commercial vehicle operators to register and operate within designated routes and motor parks, without picking passengers indiscriminately from road corridors,” he said.
He also instructed tricycle operators to adhere to established road plans and not to enter the city but rather transport passengers heading to estates and suburbs of the city.
Furthermore, he stated that traffic regulations had been reviewed, and fines would see an increase. Traffic offenders would face significant penalties when brought before the mobile court, serving as a deterrent.
Mr. Bello revealed that the directorate was collaborating with the Transport Secretariat of the FCTA to revise existing road traffic policies for more effective traffic management.
He acknowledged that until the Abuja Mass Transit system became fully operational to meet commuter needs, the directorate would continue to grapple with unregistered vehicles operating illegally in the city. He expressed optimism that this issue would be resolved in the near future.
