Reports emerging from Gusau, the capital of Zamfara State, indicate that a considerable number of students from the Federal University Gusau were abducted in the early hours of today, Friday. Confirming this incident, a Sabon Gida village native, who identified himself as Mohammed, reported that a large group of bandits descended upon the off-campus student residences in the village.

The majority of the abducted students were reportedly female, with the bandits launching their attack around 4:00 AM on Friday, targeting three student hostels. According to Mohammed, some students managed to flee to nearby bushes to evade capture.

Sani, another local resident, disclosed that the bandits exclusively targeted the university students and did not abduct any village residents. He described the assailants arriving in the village, immediately heading to the students’ off-campus hostels, and indiscriminately firing gunshots. Subsequently, they breached the campus and forcibly took away several students, most of whom were females.

He disclosed that 435 rounds of ammunition were recovered from suspected criminals and that over 200 suspects have been successfully prosecuted, with several jailed for various offenses.

The CP further revealed that 33 children who had been kidnapped or trafficked were rescued within and outside the state, with the suspects involved prosecuted and some already imprisoned. “We have sent a lot of people to jail. The arrests followed actionable intelligence received from Microsoft Corporation in the United States through the Federal Bureau of Investigation, which exposed the deployment of an advanced phishing toolkit known as RaccoonO365. The toolkit was designed to create counterfeit Microsoft login pages capable of harvesting user credentials and unlawfully accessing corporate, financial, and educational email platforms.
