Lieutenant Oni Olubodunde, the spokesperson of the Brigade, disclosed that the troops also captured a notorious gunrunner involved in arms and ammunition trade, supplying criminal elements across Taraba State and other regions of the country.
Reports indicate that the female suspect was wedded to a well-known criminal, the second-in-command to the late Hana Terwase.
According to Olubodunde, the troops acted on credible intelligence regarding the activities of the arms dealer, Joshua Dutse Idah, aged 45.
“The troops tracked down the suspect, leading to his arrest in Ibbi town of Ibbi Local Government Area of the state while en route to Kaduna State in a blue Volkswagen Sharon vehicle with registration number Rivers SKN-390AA,” stated Olubodunde.
Upon interrogation, Dutse confessed his intention to procure AK-47 rifles in Katsina State, for which he had received a partial payment of N300,000. A thorough search of the vehicle uncovered 1 PK machine gun, 399 rounds of 7.62 mm special ammunition, and 3 AK-47 rifle magazines.
Additionally, a female suspected kidnapper named Janet Igohia, aged 31, was apprehended after accepting a ransom payment of N1.5 million in the Chanchangi area of Takum LGA.
Olubodunde revealed that Igohia confessed to being married to Voryor Gata, a notorious criminal, and former second-in-command to the late Gana Terwase. She admitted to her involvement with high-profile criminals, including late Terkibi Gemaga and late Gana Terwase.
Troops deployed in Mararaba Baissa community of Donga LGA also arrested two suspected gunrunners, Alhaji Adamu Damisa (40 years old) and Usman Isah (44 years old), allegedly implicated in extra-judicial killings and cattle rustling, with the sum of N600,000.

A Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, has sentenced Sunmonu Olasunkanmi Thaoban to four years in prison for laundering ₦16 million by disguising its illegal origins and converting it into a 2018 black G-Wagon Jeep.

Guilty Plea & Sentencing: Justice Akintayo Aluko handed down the sentence on Thursday after Thaoban pleaded guilty to a two-count EFCC charge, alongside an alternative fine option of ₦1.8 million.

The Offense: Prosecutors stated that Thaoban acted as a middleman in 2023, funneling illicit funds to purchase the luxury vehicle, violating the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022.

Asset Forfeiture: In addition to the prison term, the judge ordered the permanent forfeiture of both the convict’s G-Wagon and mobile phone to the Federal Government.

In a separate proceeding, Justice Aluko also convicted four Bureau de Change (BDC) operators—Umar Muhammad Lamido, Yusuf Musa Yusuf, Abdulmuhimin Mahmud, and Muhammed Musa—for conducting unauthorized foreign exchange transactions outside the official market. Following their guilty pleas, each received a 12-month prison sentence with an option of a ₦100,000 fine.
A Delta State High Court has handed down death sentences to two individuals for their involvement in the 2018 killing of Delta State University (DELSU) undergraduate Elozino Ogege, following a ruling that found them guilty. Meanwhile, a third co-defendant facing charges related to the same incident was discharged and acquitted.
