The Ondo State House of Assembly has refuted allegations of witch-hunting in its move to impeach Deputy Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa. According to Chairman of the House Committee on Information, Oshati Olatunji, the impeachment proceedings are not driven by a witch-hunt but rather by allegations of misconduct that require the Deputy Governor’s defense.

Olatunji explained that the Assembly received several allegations, some related to misconduct and misappropriation. He emphasized the duty of the Assembly to investigate such petitions and stated that their goal is to sanitize the system, not to engage in witch-hunting.
Among the allegations, one involves accusations of attempting to divide the executive and plan the impeachment of the governor while he was away, which the Deputy Governor needs to address.
The impeachment process began upon the return of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu from a medical trip abroad, and while some have alleged the governor’s involvement, legal expert Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa disagreed. Adegboruwa expressed confidence in the governor’s transparency and accountability, believing that he would work to reduce political tension in the state.
Olatunji mentioned that the Assembly has invited the Deputy Governor to defend himself and has given him a seven-day window to appear before the House.
