Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, has issued a directive for the expeditious completion of the ongoing rural electrification project in the Kogi/Koto region without any further delays.

The governor made this announcement during his inspection visit to the project site at the Muritala bridge in Koto on Saturday. During the inspection, Governor Bello observed the installation of a 185mm2 XLPE Cable to replace the undersized 75mm2 XLPE cable currently serving the people of the Kogi/Koto Karfe local government area.

During his visit, he urged the contractors to increase their efforts to ensure a swift and efficient completion of the project. He expressed satisfaction with the quality of work done so far but emphasized the project’s importance to his administration and the socio-economic well-being of the local population, urging the contractors to accelerate their work.

One of the site supervisors representing the contracting team, Omachi Atayi, assured the governor that the project would be completed within the specified timeline.

In a statement released on Saturday by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Onogwu Mohammed, it was highlighted that Governor Bello has consistently shown unwavering commitment to improving the living conditions of rural residents in Kogi State across all three senatorial districts through rural electrification initiatives.

Governor Bello successfully addressed the long-standing issue of unreliable power supply in Kogi East with the ‘Light-up Kogi East Project’ and extended these efforts to Kogi Central and the western senatorial district. In Kogi East, the governor tackled the electricity challenge by expanding power supply across the Ajaokuta bridge into the Eastern part of the district, significantly increasing power load capacity from 14.5 MW to approximately 45 MW, benefiting over 45 communities across nine Local Government Areas (LGAs) in Kogi East.

For the electrification challenges in Kogi Central senatorial district, the governor’s ongoing initiatives aim to connect rural communities in Kogi/Koto to the national grid, ensuring a reliable power supply for the entire area.
