An online petition titled “Ban Marlian Music” has amassed over 47,000 signatures as of 12:30 p.m. on Friday. The petitioners allege that Marlian Records, associated with popular Nigerian artist Naira Marley, operates as a drug syndicate disguised as a music label.
The controversy surrounding Marlian Records intensified following the sudden death of singer Mohbad on Tuesday. Some individuals, including Naira Marley and Sam Larry, have been implicated in the controversy.
The controversy erupted after a video surfaced showing Sam Larry, an ally of Naira Marley, and others apparently harassing Mohbad on a music set. This video prompted numerous Nigerians to flood the Instagram pages of Sam Larry and Naira Marley, accusing them of bullying and oppressing the late singer. In response, Sam Larry deactivated his Instagram account due to the cyberattacks he received.
The petitioners claim that Marlian Records recruits young boys to engage in drug-related activities and peddle drugs. They cite the case of ex-signee Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, also known as Mohbad/Imole, as an example of how his life was tragically cut short and his fundamental rights violated before his death.
The petitioners allege that Sam Larry and Naira Marley were involved in the beating, stalking, and eventual death of Mohbad. Mohbad had reportedly filed petitions against Sam Larry, Elebe, and others months before his death, citing threats to his life, malicious property damage, and oppression, among other issues. However, the police allegedly failed to take action, claiming that Mohbad did not respond to their invitation.
The campaigners are calling for a thorough investigation into the matter. They argue that the Nigerian Police Force has not fulfilled its duty to protect citizens’ lives and property. They also mention the case of Nnnamdi Emeh, a whistleblower who was arrested and detained for exposing alleged undercover activities of the Anambra police, including the harvesting and trade of human organs and the wrongful detention of innocent citizens.
The petitioners demand justice and government intervention in these matters, urging a comprehensive investigation into the Marlian Music Brand and the evidence provided to the public.
It’s worth noting that after Mohbad’s death, a petition dated June 27, 2023, allegedly written by the late singer, surfaced. In the petition, Mohbad had reportedly cited multiple threats to his life from controversial socialite Samson Balogun, also known as Sam Larry, and others. The petition was addressed to the Assistant Inspector-General of Police at the Nigeria Police Force’s Force Criminal Investigation Department Annex in Ikoyi, Lagos.

In a viral video detailing the incident, Sandra explained that hours after participating in the morning service, taking communion, and paying her regular offering, she attempted to fund a voucher purchase by transferring N1,640,200 to her personal Zenith Bank account. Instead, the heavy sum was erroneously sent to the church account.
Making a public appeal to anyone with contacts at Streams of Joy International, the single mother of two stressed that the funds do not belong to her and that the rightful owners have already begun demanding the money.
Esther Umoh, a media aide to Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate Peter Obi, has strongly refuted claims that peaceful protesters were behind the recent violent assault on their convoy in Benue State. Speaking out via a statement on her official X account, Umoh alleged that the Special Assistant on Youth to the Benue State Governor was actively embedded with the thugs who launched the attack along the Gboko-Makurdi Expressway in Makurdi. The Borno State Commissioner for Poverty Alleviation, Youths and Sports, Hon. Saina Buba, has formally retracted and apologized for a controversial statement he made during a public engagement hosted by the City Boy Movement in Maiduguri. During a press briefing with journalists at his office in Maiduguri, Hon. Buba completely withdrew the remark and issued an apology to anyone offended by the rhetoric. He explicitly noted that his words were never meant to infringe upon or undermine the constitutional rights of Borno State citizens regarding their freedom of choice and association under the Nigerian Constitution. Furthermore, he clarified that his statements were not meant to be interpreted literally, but due to the ongoing public anxiety and concern, a formal retraction was necessary.
The commissioner also emphasized that his fiery rhetoric does not reflect the core principles of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) or the governance style and administration of Governor Babagana Umara Zulum. He reiterated that the state government stays firmly dedicated to safeguarding the rights of all residents and upholding democratic values.
