Fire Devastates TCN Transmission Substation In Kebbi State, Nigeria Restores Power After Nationwide Blackout
A devastating fire incident occurred at the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) transmission substation in Birnin-Kebbi, Kebbi State. The incident took place in the early hours of Friday and resulted in extensive damage to the 330-kilovolt (kV) facility. This incident occurred shortly after a nationwide power grid failure.

The spokesperson for the Kebbi State Police Command, Nafiu Abubakar, confirmed the fire but noted that he had yet to receive a detailed report on the incident at the time of this report.
Meanwhile, electricity supply has been restored in Nigeria following a nationwide blackout caused by the collapse of the national grid on Thursday morning. The Eko Electricity Distribution Company announced on its X (formerly Twitter) handle that power supply had been reinstated, thanking customers for their patience.
The blackout affected major cities and towns across the country due to the grid failure on Thursday. At 4:00 a.m. on Thursday, only five generating plants were active on the grid. Among them, Afam VI generated 0.70MW, Dadinkowa produced 0.00MW, Ibom Power contributed 32.90MW, Jebba added 240MW, while Olorunsogo had zero generation.
Reports indicate that the grid’s capacity dropped to a mere 273 megawatts of electricity in the early hours of Thursday. This amount was generated from only two out of the over 27 electricity generation plants in the country. Several distribution companies confirmed that the grid failure occurred at 00:41 AM, resulting in most of their feeders being out of service.
