Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike has stated that former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s endorsement of Labour Party candidate Peter Obi for the 2023 presidential election raises concerns about the Peoples Democratic Party’s future (PDP).

On Tuesday, Wike spoke at the groundbreaking ceremony for the Mgbuodohia Road in Rumuolumene, Obio-Akpor Local Government Area.

He stated that for Obasanjo to choose Obi over the PDP candidate, Atiku Abubakar, who served him as Vice President for eight years, every PDP supporter should be concerned.

“I meant no harm,” Wike stated. I’m only concerned since I’m a major PDP member. Any man who loves PDP should be concerned.
“I wasn’t making fun of anyone. I was only concerned. My wish was for Obasanjo to remain silent and not say anything. That was the entirety of my prayer, yet it was in vain.

“My prayer was that if this man makes any speech, it will convict us because he was President under the Peoples Democratic Party for eight years, and he worked with our presidential candidate.

“And the pitch of our presidential council is that our presidential candidate did extremely well, with expertise, during the eight years.”

When chastised for his role in the development, the governor asked, “What did I do?
Nothing was done by me.
“All I did was express my worry.
If you care about this party, you should investigate what is fundamentally wrong.

“You’re abusing me for informing the party that we should do something because I’m concerned that we should do something.

“They are not bothered, but those of us who since 1998 joined this party, contributed for the survival of this party until now, we keep shouting always when we sense danger coming.

“Abuses upon abuses, it will not change anything, rather it will spoil more things.
What you don’t know, ask people for aid, and they will help you solve the problem.
“Nobody can drive us (Integrity Group) from this house (PDP) we have built. All of us will fight here.

“So, if anybody thinks that you can just sit in your house and dish out orders, it will not work. The house will collapse on you. So, you better think twice.”

Wike also wrote off the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers state, saying its soul and strengh have departed, leaving the carcass and therefore, cannot get any electoral support from Rivers electorate.

Specifically, Governor Wike pointed to the level of support that Chief Anele Orobule, a die-hard believer in the former governor, Chibuike Amaechi, gave to the APC but was disgraced because of failed promises.

He urged the people of Rivers State to be wary of the APC governorship candidate, Tonye Cole, alleging he is being fronted by Amaechi because they do not mean well for the state.

The governor urged the Rivers State PDP governorship candidate, Sir Siminalayi Fubara to consider constructing a bridge to link Rumuolumeni to Eagle Island in Port Harcourt, when he eventually assumes office.

reports that he will be contesting under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The businessman has already obtained the APC expression of interest and nomination forms for the House of Representatives race.

Meanwhile, Chief Priest recently sparked discussions online after sharing his opinion on politicians who enjoy massive support on social media.

He argued that online popularity does not necessarily translate into electoral success, noting that many politicians who are widely praised on social media often lose at the polls, while those heavily criticised online sometimes end up winning elections.

He made the remarks on his Instagram story, stressing that online reactions are not a true reflection of voting outcomes.

He cited Lagos lawmaker Desmond Elliot as an example, claiming that despite facing heavy criticism online in the past, he still secured electoral victory.

According to him, “People wey una dey love for social media no dey ever win election na the ones wey dem dey abuse online na them dey always win. I use Hon. Desmond Elliot own know, once social media dey curse you out you don win be that. Social media candidates no deh ever win. Na noise una get Umu bingo with una free WiFi live sessions. only Cho Cho Cho zero capacity.”

Former Vice President of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar, has expressed satisfaction with the Supreme Court’s judgment on the leadership dispute within the African Democratic Congress (ADC).....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

reports that in its ruling on Thursday, the apex court affirmed the faction of the ADC led by former Senate President, David Mark.

The Supreme Court also set aside an earlier order directing the party to maintain the status quo ante bellum while the leadership crisis was being resolved.

In a unanimous decision delivered by a five-member panel headed by Justice Mohammed Lawal Garba, the court held that the Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal exceeded its jurisdiction by issuing the order after it had already dismissed the case brought before it by one of the factions.

Reacting to the judgment, Atiku congratulated David Mark on the outcome but cautioned that the ADC must not become complacent, stressing that significant challenges still lie ahead.

He said the ruling should be seen as a victory for Nigerians and urged supporters of the party to remain committed, noting that the struggle for national rescue is ongoing.

“Even as we welcome the Supreme Court’s firm affirmation of David Mark and the leadership of our great party, the African Democratic Congress, let no one be lulled into complacency. The road ahead remains long in our cause to take back and rescue our country.

“This victory belongs to Nigerians, the courageous millions who refuse to surrender their future. We thank them, and we urge them to remain steadfast, because the struggle is far from over. As we press on, let this truth guide us: eternal vigilance is the price of liberty,” he said.

reports that Wike made the remarks while speaking to journalists at his residence in Abuja.

The former Rivers State governor insisted that the apex court decision has resolved the long-standing factional disputes within the PDP.

According to him, “The PDP is one. The judgment has put to rest reactions of factions within the party.”

Wike also weighed in on the leadership tussle in the African Democratic Congress (ADC), saying the matter is still unresolved.

He noted that the Supreme Court had referred the ADC case back to the Federal High Court, adding that the party remains in crisis.

“The Supreme Court referred the ADC back to the Federal High Court. The ADC is still in problem,” he said.

The FCT Minister further expressed strong personal reservations about certain political actors, stressing that his criticism was not directed at political parties but at individuals.

“Not that I don’t like the party, I hate the individuals involved. I don’t like them. They are part of the people that have plunged Nigeria into problems,” Wike stated.
