Rema, who has rapidly ascended to the top of the Afrobeats scene, did not hesitate to place himself alongside industry heavyweights such as Wizkid, Davido, and Burna Boy. “I don’t want to feel like an Afrobeats Messiah,” he remarked. “Sometimes I can’t wait for the OGs to say it, but since no one is saying it, I might have to say it myself. Respect to the OGs, but yeah, I am one of the Big 4.”

He went on to emphasize that the recent creation of an Afrobeats category at major award shows, such as the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs), was a direct result of his music’s impact. “Something as little as a major award show creating an Afrobeats category because the success of my song has already opened gates,” Rema stated, highlighting the growing influence of the genre.

Omah Lay explained that when he commits to something, he gives it his all, which made it hard for him to be present at the Grammy event while navigating the breakup.

“I thought it was the right relationship, and I was going to have a baby. Every time I fall in love, I lose myself. While I was at the Grammys, and Justin Bieber was performing, I was going through a breakup and an embarrassing moment. I wasn’t even present at the Grammys because the issues in my relationship had already started before the show.

“This was only a two-month relationship, but I gave it my all. I don’t know how to do two things at once. When I’m into something, all of me is in it. My song Don’t Love Me is me saying, ‘Let’s enjoy this moment, but when I find something else that brings me pleasure, I’ll move on.’”
