Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, has emphasised the importance of humility and simplicity, declaring that his immense wealth does not prevent him from staying in a modest hotel or being comfortable with basic amenities.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The billionaire businessman made the remarks while speaking at an event tagged Vision 2030 on Monday, where he also accepted an invitation from popular content creator Adebayo Ridwan, better known as Bae U Barbie, to feature on his YouTube programme, Curiosity Made Me Ask.

Dangote stressed that people should remain humble regardless of their achievements or financial status, noting that success should not make anyone feel superior to others.

“And also to show people that, look, in life, you have to be as simple as you can, because anybody can be anybody,” he said.

Explaining his approach to life, the industrialist said he could comfortably spend the night in even the poorest hotel, provided he had access to basic facilities.

“Today, if you take me to anywhere, if you take me to the worst hotel, I can sleep, I can have my shower, I can live,” he stated.

He added that people should embrace simplicity and avoid placing themselves on a pedestal because of their social standing or accomplishments.

Dangote also shared an experience involving the Prime Minister of Ethiopia, whom he said had served for eight years without using a personal driver.

According to the billionaire, he met the Ethiopian leader during a visit to the country to commission a fertiliser plant. During their encounter, Dangote asked why the prime minister did not have a driver.

He said the prime minister responded that his wife usually drove him around.

Dangote Accepts Bae U Barbie’s Interview Invitation

At the same event, Dangote accepted an invitation from Bae U Barbie to appear on his YouTube programme, Curiosity Made Me Ask.

The invitation followed the content creator’s argument that young Nigerians deserved more opportunities to hear directly from influential business leaders.

Bae U Barbie had observed that many of Dangote’s previous interviews were conducted on platforms that younger audiences might not regularly follow, despite their interest in his businesses and the planned initial public offering.

Responding to the appeal, Dangote described young people as the future of Nigeria and Africa, adding that older generations had a responsibility to share their experiences with them.

“Honestly, the future that we have is actually you, the youth. We, our own generation really, we have not really done very well for Nigeria and also for Africa. That’s the truth,” he said.

He further explained that engaging with younger Nigerians would give them an opportunity to learn from the experiences of previous generations.

“So we need to sit down with some of you and discuss our own experience with you,” he added.

The billionaire also expressed appreciation for the support and respect he receives from young Nigerians.

Dangote also explained why he readily agrees to take photographs with people who approach him, despite his status as one of the world’s wealthiest individuals.

He recalled an experience from his younger years when he and his late grandfather met prominent personalities in Washington and asked to take pictures with them.

According to him, the experience influenced his decision to accommodate similar requests from members of the public.

Dangote’s remarks highlighted his belief in humility, accessibility and the importance of maintaining a connection with ordinary people, regardless of wealth or social po

President Bola Tinubu has commended his son, Seyi Tinubu, for mobilising young Nigerians through the City Boys Movement and rallying their support for his political ambition ahead of the 2027 presidential election.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Tinubu made the commendation during the inauguration of the City Boys Movement in Abuja, where he expressed pride in his son’s efforts to organise young people in support of his re-election bid.

The president revealed that he had received several phone calls in recent weeks from people seeking clarification about Seyi’s political activities and the position he intended to contest.

According to Tinubu, he told those who contacted him that his son was not pursuing a personal political office but was instead championing his father’s political cause.

The president noted that Seyi had taken the initiative to engage young Nigerians within his age group, listen to their concerns and mobilise them without demanding a political title or government appointment in return.

Tinubu described his son’s approach as humble and commended him and other members of the movement for their efforts.

Speaking at the event, the president said: “Permit me a personal moment for my son, Seyi. I’ve watched what you started with City Boy, and I got some calls within the last few weeks asking me what Seyi is running for. I said he’s running after his father.

“You did it humbly, you did not ask for a title or an office, you went to the young people, your age mates, your group, you listened to them and you organised them. I am proud of all of you.”

Peter Obi Did Not Tell Nigerians Abroad To Abandon Their Parents, Siblings – Media Office

Published

on

The Peter Obi Media Office has dismissed claims that the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, urged Nigerians living abroad to stop providing financial assistance to their relatives in Nigeria.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The clarification followed controversy over remarks Obi made during a town hall meeting with supporters in the United Kingdom, where he encouraged Nigerians in the diaspora to urge relatives demanding financial assistance to support leaders capable of delivering good governance.

During the engagement, Obi reportedly said: “You have people at home in Nigeria today who are begging you for money. Tell them no! Let’s put somebody who has proven to be productive.”

In a statement issued on Monday night, the media office’s spokesperson, Idris Zekeri Jnr, said the controversy stemmed from what he described as a misrepresentation of Obi’s comments during his engagement with Nigerians in Europe.

Zekeri alleged that portions of the video had been edited and circulated without the context necessary to understand the former Anambra State governor’s message.

He insisted that Obi neither intended to discourage Nigerians abroad from supporting their loved ones nor disregard the sacrifices they make to provide for family members back home.

“Peter Obi’s remarks were never intended to encourage Nigerians abroad to abandon their parents, siblings, or other loved ones in Nigeria. Nothing could be further from the truth,” the statement said.

The media office acknowledged that many Nigerians living abroad shoulder significant financial responsibilities for their families at home. These include paying school fees, settling medical bills, providing food and helping relatives cope with the country’s difficult economic conditions.

However, it argued that the continued dependence of many households on financial assistance from relatives abroad highlighted the urgent need to address the underlying problems preventing families from meeting their basic needs.

According to the office, Obi advocates building a country where citizens can earn decent incomes, access affordable healthcare and provide quality education for their children without relying on money sent by relatives living overseas.

“Peter Obi’s vision is to create a Nigeria that works for all, a country in which remittances from the diaspora support national development instead of being essential to families’ survival,” the statement added.

The office stressed that the central message of Obi’s remarks was not a call for Nigerians abroad to withdraw financial support from their families, but a demand for better governance and economic opportunities that would reduce such dependence.

It maintained that Nigeria, given its resources and potential, should not leave so many households struggling to survive without assistance from family members outside the country.

The statement described Obi’s message as a call to tackle the root causes of poverty rather than continue managing its consequences.

“He is not asking Nigerians abroad to stop supporting their families. Rather, he is advocating for a Nigeria in which their families will no longer need to depend on them in order to survive,” the media office stated.

During the event, the business mogul was asked to choose between spending seven days without his mobile phone and losing access to his private jet for the same period.

In response, Dangote made it clear that giving up his phone would be the more difficult option, explaining that he relies heavily on it to communicate and maintain contact with people.

“Ah… I think it’s easier you put me in prison than to take my phone away. So, you know, I mean taking my phone away is no-go area, okay?” he said.

The billionaire also disclosed that his mobile phone contains more than 13,000 contacts, reflecting the extensive network of relationships he has built over the years.

“I know that would be almost… my number, I have that number since… Twitter… I have more than 13,000 contacts on my phone,” Dangote stated.

When asked how he had accumulated such a large number of contacts, the industrialist explained that he rarely blocks people, allowing his contact list to continue growing.

“Wow. Wow. I hardly… I don’t like blocking people, so a lot of people,” he added.
