Tinubu Once Worked For Atiku’s Presidency, APC Chairman Yilwatda Reveals.

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, has recalled how President Bola Tinubu supported Atiku Abubakar’s presidential ambition in 2007.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Yilwatda made the disclosure on Friday at the APC national secretariat while receiving defectors from opposition parties in Sokoto, Kaduna, Jigawa, Kano and Plateau states.

The APC chairman said Tinubu had consistently worked towards promoting national unity but lost the support of several politicians he had helped in the past when he declared his intention to contest the 2023 presidential election.

He stated, “If anybody has worked for the unity of Nigeria, it is President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in 2007, supported Atiku to become the president of Nigeria because he believed then that power should move from the South to the North.

“People that he has supported all through from the North and South, when he said he wanted to contest, most of them pulled out their support.”

Yilwatda also recalled Tinubu’s support for the current National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, during the 2011 presidential election, when Ribadu contested under the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN).

The APC national chairman further highlighted Tinubu’s political support for former Presidents Muhammadu Buhari and Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, describing the President’s actions as efforts to promote national unity and social cohesion.

According to him, Tinubu mobilised his political network to support Buhari, who hails from northern Nigeria.

Yilwatda said Tinubu stood firmly behind Buhari in 2015, arguing that power needed to return to the North following the death of Yar’Adua.

He added that Tinubu also supported Buhari’s re-election bid in 2019, despite the withdrawal of support by some northern elders and politicians.

“In 2019, when a lot of the northern elders and politicians left Buhari, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu stood for him and led a reconciliation committee that brought Nigerians together to support President Buhari,” he said.

Yilwatda criticised those who question Tinubu’s contributions to northern Nigeria, alleging that some politicians mislead the public by repeatedly asking what the President has done for the region.

“Most times, they deceive you. They say, ‘What has President Bola Ahmed Tinubu done for the North?’ They keep on saying that,” he added.
