2027 Election: Atiku And Peter Obi Cannot Defeat Tinubu – Yari Declares

Published

Former Zamfara State Governor, Abdulaziz Yari, has said African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar and Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) rival Peter Obi lack the political strength required to defeat President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Yari, who serves as the Director-General of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council, argued that neither opposition figure has sufficient support across northern and southern Nigeria to secure victory.

Naija News reports that the senator representing Zamfara West made the remarks on Friday while speaking with State House correspondents after meeting Tinubu at the Presidential Villa.

According to Yari, winning the presidency requires a candidate to secure substantial support from both regions rather than depend predominantly on one part of the country.

He argued that even a candidate with 80 per cent support in the South would struggle to win without significant backing in the North. He said the same principle applied to candidates with strong northern support but limited acceptance in the South.

Yari questioned whether Atiku could claim control of any state in southern Nigeria and expressed similar doubts about Obi’s ability to secure a state in the North.

He said, “Can you say that the ADC candidate today in the southern part of the country can beat his chest and say he has control of one state in the south? And I don’t think Peter Obi, who used to be my colleague, can beat his chest.

“Can he say he has one state he can control in northern Nigeria? So this calculation shows us that even if you have control of 80% of the south, if you don’t have anything in the north, you cannot make it. If you have 80% control of the North, if you don’t have any state in the South, you can’t make it, and that’s what it is.”

Yari Cites Buhari’s Previous Presidential Defeats

To reinforce his argument, the APC campaign chief referred to the electoral record of former President Muhammadu Buhari, who lost presidential elections in 2003, 2007 and 2011.

Buhari contested under the defunct All Nigeria People’s Party (ANPP) in 2003 and 2007 before running under the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) in 2011.

Yari maintained that Buhari enjoyed considerable support in northern Nigeria but could not secure enough backing in the South to win those elections.

“Look at Buhari of blessed memory. He had control of over 70% at that time, over 11 states in the North, and had no control of one in the South. He couldn’t make it all the way,” he said.

In contrast, Yari claimed Tinubu enjoys political support in more than 10 states across both the North and South, arguing that the president’s nationwide reach gives him an advantage over his potential challengers.

“This is the calculation; it is not rocket science,” he added.

Yari Defends Tinubu’s Performance

Beyond the regional distribution of political support, Yari expressed confidence that Tinubu’s performance since assuming office in May 2023 would strengthen his bid for another term.

The former governor argued that the administration had made progress in addressing the challenges it inherited and maintained that the APC had achievements to present to voters ahead of the 2027 election.

“President Bola Tinubu, since the time he assumed office, has turned around the situation that he met on the ground; still, the economy is moving. So I think we have done enough that we can tell our opponents about what we did,” Yari said.

He added, “We are not promising. We are doing it, and we are going to continue.”

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has pledged to serve only a single four-year term if elected president in the 2027 general election.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Makinde, the presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), made the promise on Saturday during a town hall meeting organised by the party in Yola, Adamawa State.

He also vowed to establish an inclusive government and address some of Nigeria’s major challenges, particularly insecurity and poverty.

“Our government will not last beyond four years. And it will be an all-inclusive government,” Makinde said.

The governor’s declaration comes as political parties intensify preparations for the 2027 general election.

His promise mirrors that of Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), who has also pledged to serve just one four-year term if elected president.

The one-term commitments have also renewed discussions about Nigeria’s informal power-sharing arrangement between the northern and southern parts of the country.

President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who hails from the South, is seeking re-election in 2027.

Keyamo Accuses Atiku Of Bitterness Against Tinubu

Meanwhile, Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has accused the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, of displaying hostility towards President Bola Tinubu because of political disappointment and bitterness.

In a statement issued on Friday night, Keyamo described Atiku’s recent verbal attacks on Tinubu as signs of what he called “agitated depression,” which he attributed to political defeat.

Keyamo argued that Atiku was unhappy that Tinubu secured the presidency on his first attempt, despite both politicians having pursued lengthy political careers over several decades.

Reflecting on their political relationship when Tinubu was governor of Lagos State and Atiku served as vice president, the minister claimed that the former vice president had previously occupied a higher position in the political hierarchy.

He also urged people close to Atiku to offer him support rather than encourage his public criticisms, warning that his approach could drive away his remaining supporters and push him towards what he described as “political oblivion.”

Citing Ecclesiastes 9:11, Keyamo argued that political success is influenced by divine timing. He further claimed that Atiku urgently needed mental health support at this stage of his political career.

Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso has praised the midfield partnership between Moisés Caicedo and Jordan Henderson following the Blues’ emphatic 5-1 victory over Bournemouth in the English Premier League (EPL) on Saturday.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Alonso said the pair brought stability, balance and a better understanding of the game to Chelsea’s midfield, an area that had attracted concerns ahead of the encounter.

Henderson and Morgan Rogers both scored twice, while João Pedro also found the net as Chelsea returned from the international break with a commanding victory.

Speaking during his post-match press conference, Alonso was asked about the performance of Caicedo and Henderson and how effectively they worked together in midfield.

The Spanish tactician explained that although the two players possessed different qualities and positional attributes, they complemented each other well on the pitch.

“Both, in terms of qualities, are different, and in terms of positioning as well. I think that they help each other well and they give presence, they give stability.

“You know that they are going to be the ones that are going to be helping the rest, not just for their qualities because they understand the game.

“They can play in shorter spaces, but as well defensively, they give good balance,” Alonso said.

The Chelsea boss emphasised that strengthening the midfield was essential to the team’s continued development. He added that Caicedo and Henderson would be key figures in his efforts to establish a more effective unit.

“For me, it’s fundamental that we get that area strong and for sure with Moisés, Hendo played today, it was his second game,” he added.

Alonso also identified Romeo Lavia, Reece James and Valentin Barco as players who could provide additional options in midfield.

According to the manager, Lavia has already made useful contributions, while James has also featured in the middle of the park on several occasions.

Alonso said Chelsea would continue working to improve the department as he seeks to create a more balanced, dependable and competitive midfield capable of supporting the team’s ambitions.

According to Buzz Day, Bello made the remarks during a panel discussion titled “20+ Years in the Media: Real Talk with Kike @7,” where she declared, “America trained me, but Nigeria made me.”

Responding to a question about what could inspire hope among young Nigerians building their careers in the country, the actress said she continued to see opportunities in Nigeria despite the challenges confronting the nation.

She explained that her previous experience living in the United States had not diminished her desire to remain in Nigeria, which she considers home.

Bello said, “I pray I never get the opportunity, as they call it, to go back. Yes, you’ll say because I’ve done it before. I’ve been there before. Yes, I agree with that. But because of the opportunities that I’ve seen in this country, and I am still seeing, I don’t ever want to go back. This is home, this is where it is.”

The actress acknowledged the difficulties many Nigerians face, particularly in the areas of electricity, education and healthcare. However, she encouraged young people to focus on personal development and make the most of the opportunities available to them.

She also advised aspiring professionals to remain authentic and dedicated to their chosen fields, noting that these qualities had helped sustain her career over the years.

According to her, young people should identify their talents, develop their skills and work hard to establish themselves.

She said, “Look within yourself, what do you have to offer? What is in your hands? Whatever it is that is in your hands to offer, study, learn and prove yourself worthy of it.

“For me to be here for so many years, first of all, I have to be authentic to who I am. If you lie, you keep having to remember the lies, if you tell the truth, it’s easy.”

Bello further highlighted the importance of faith in navigating life and pursuing personal ambitions, urging young Nigerians to “hold God tight” as they work towards achieving their goals
