₦400,000 Salary Is Possible, TUC Tells FG to Increase Workers’ Pay.

The Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) has called on the Federal Government to increase the salaries of its workers without waiting for another review of the national minimum wage.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The TUC President, Festus Osifo, said the government has the authority to improve the earnings of federal workers or increase the salaries of the lowest-paid employees without passing a new Minimum Wage Act.

Osifo stated this on Wednesday evening during a press briefing in Abuja following a meeting of the National Administrative Council of the labour organisation.

He explained that the national minimum wage is intended to establish the lowest amount an employer is legally required to pay workers and should not be regarded as the maximum salary employees can earn.

“Government does not even need to wait for a new Minimum Wage Act to be signed before government will take care of its workers,” Osifo said.

According to him, the Federal Government can independently review the salaries of its employees, beginning with the lowest-paid workers and adjusting the earnings of others accordingly.

“Government can wake up today and say, ‘Okay, I want to pay the least-paid worker in the Federal Government payroll ₦200,000,’ for example. They could say, ‘Let the least-paid worker be ₦400,000,’ for example, and graduate it upwards,” he said.

Osifo stressed that such an adjustment would not amount to introducing a new national minimum wage because the statutory wage is primarily designed to establish the lowest legally permissible pay for workers.

“Is that only the minimum wage for government to do that? No. That is not really the function of a minimum wage,” he added.

A delegation comprising former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello and former Jigawa State Governor Abubakar Badaru on Monday visited the Presidential Villa in Abuja for a closed-door meeting with Vice President Kashim Shettima.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Other members of the delegation included the Minister of Livestock Development, Idi Maiha, and former Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Attahiru Jega, who also serves as Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu and Coordinator of the Presidential Livestock Reform.

Former Plateau State Governor Simon Lalong, Director-General of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa (retd.), and the President’s Special Adviser on Policy Coordination, Hadiza Bala-Usman, were also among those present.

The delegation was identified as the leadership of the National Directorate of Arewa for Asiwaju Movement.

The group reportedly arrived at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa at about 4 p.m. and proceeded to the Vice President’s office.

However, Shettima was still attending another meeting at the President’s wing of the Villa, which had commenced around 2 p.m., when the delegation arrived.

Meanwhile, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nentawe Yilwatda, has dismissed the growing ‘Tinubu Must Go’ campaign, arguing that it is being driven by opposition politicians and does not represent the views of Nigerians.

Yilwatda made the remarks during an appearance on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics.

He argued that the opposition parties’ failure to win elections had strengthened the APC’s position ahead of the 2027 general election.

The APC chairman also compared Tinubu with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, describing the incumbent president as “far better” than his predecessor.

On electricity, Yilwatda pointed to reforms that have empowered state governments to participate in the generation, transmission and distribution of electricity.

He also welcomed support for Tinubu’s re-election bid from political groups outside the APC, including the Rainbow Coalition associated with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

Yilwatda maintained that the ruling party remained confident of securing victory in 2027 despite campaigns against the president.

Court Delivers Major Verdict, Declares Mandung Winner Of Plateau APC Primary.

The Federal High Court in Jos, Plateau State, has directed the All Progressives Congress (APC) to submit the name of Hon. Ayuba Dalyop Mandung to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as its candidate for Jos South State Constituency in the 2027 general election.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The court also barred the party from presenting Mancha John Vincent as its duly nominated candidate for the constituency.

Justice Dorcas Agishi issued the orders on Monday while delivering judgment in a suit filed by Mandung against Vincent, the APC and INEC over the party’s primary election held on May 20, 2026.

Mandung had challenged the alleged manipulation of the primary election results, particularly the figures announced at Giring Ward.

The plaintiff was represented by Ritji Timothy Yilwatda.

In her judgment, Justice Agishi held that results declared at the ward level could not lawfully be altered afterwards. The court also found that Mandung was not afforded a fair hearing during the process.

Consequently, the judge granted a perpetual injunction restraining the defendants from presenting Vincent as the APC’s duly nominated candidate for Jos South State Constituency.

The court further ordered the defendants to comply with the provisions of the Nigerian Constitution, the Electoral Act and the APC’s guidelines on the nomination of candidates.

In addition, the court issued a mandatory order compelling the APC to forward Mandung’s name to INEC as its candidate for the constituency in the 2027 general election.

The court also awarded costs of ₦500,000 against each of the three defendants—Vincent, the APC and INEC—bringing the total award to ₦1.5 million.

Mandung had instituted the case, marked FHC/J/CS/43/2026, seeking a declaration that he won the APC primary after securing the highest number of votes announced at the ward level.

He alleged that the original results were subsequently altered in favour of Vincent.

Before proceeding to determine the substantive issues, the court dismissed preliminary objections raised by lawyers representing the defendants.

Justice Agishi subsequently ruled in Mandung’s favour, granting the reliefs sought in connection with his nomination as the APC candidate for Jos South State Constituency in the 2027 election.

IPOB Breaks Silence On Possible Return Of Monday Sit-At-Home In South-East.

Published

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has challenged the Nigeria Police Force to provide evidence supporting claims that the group plans to resume enforcing Monday sit-at-home orders across the South-East.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The separatist group insisted that it had not instructed its members or the Eastern Security Network (ESN) to enforce any sit-at-home directive from October 12, 2026.

IPOB’s response followed reports of a police intelligence document dated October 9, 2026, which allegedly raised concerns about a possible return of sit-at-home enforcement in the region.

In a statement issued on Monday, the group’s Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, dismissed the allegation, maintaining that its position on the matter remained unchanged.

“There is no voice note. There is no order from IPOB or ESN to resume any sit-at-home. There is no plan by this movement to enforce anything on the people of the South-East or Imo State,” the statement read.

The group called on the police to present verifiable evidence to substantiate the claims contained in the reported intelligence document, including proof that the alleged message originated from IPOB or ESN.

IPOB also maintained that its activities remained focused on its stated objective of achieving Biafran self-determination through peaceful means.

The organisation further reiterated its position that it intended to boycott the forthcoming elections.

Beyond the sit-at-home controversy, IPOB urged the Federal Government to address the economic challenges confronting Nigerians, particularly hunger and unemployment.

It called on the authorities to prioritise policies and measures aimed at easing the hardship faced by citizens and responding to their concerns.

As of the time of filing this report, the police had yet to respond to IPOB’s statement or the allegations surrounding the reported intelligence document.
