Governor Okpebholo made the statement on Friday while addressing All Progressives Congress (APC) members in the Orhionmwon and Uhunmwode Local Government Areas during his tour to strengthen the party ahead of the 2027 general elections. According to a statement released on Saturday by his Chief Press Secretary, Patrick Ebojele, the defaulting contractor is a friend of former Governor Godwin Obaseki.
-
The road project was split between two contractors under the past administration.
-
One contractor has made significant progress, reaching roughly 75 percent completion.
-
The second contractor—identified as Obaseki’s friend—abandoned the site after being fully paid, subjecting motorists to severe hardship.
Governor Okpebholo stated that although he initially preferred not to comment on the road contract due to previous legal and contractual agreements, public complaints during his visit compelled him to speak out and take action.
“That road was given to two contractors,” Okpebholo said. “One of them is working… while the other, who is a friend to Obaseki, has abandoned his section… I am going to arrest that contractor.”
