WE ARE NOT CURSED!’ Peter Obi Lays The Blame Squarely On Nigeria’s Past And Present Leaders!.
In his Independence Day message marking Nigeria’s 66th anniversary, Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), asserted that the nation’s struggles stem from poor leadership rather than a national curse. He stressed that the milestone anniversary should serve as a time for honest introspection on whether the country is progressing toward the ideals envisioned by its founders.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Highlighting the urgent need for national assessment, Obi pointed to severe socioeconomic challenges confronting the populace under the current administration, noting:
-
Over 140 million Nigerians currently live in poverty and severe hardship.
-
More than 18 million children are out of school.
-
Extreme hunger is projected to affect over 40 million Nigerians by the end of 2026.
-
Youth unemployment and underemployment impact more than 35 million people.
-
Drug abuse and substance misuse have surged to 14 percent compared to the global average of six percent.
-
Average life expectancy stands at 54 years against a global average of 74 years.
Obi dismissed the notion that Nigeria is inherently cursed, describing the country as immensely endowed and arguing that the fundamental issue lies in the inability to convert massive natural resources into human development, security, and shared prosperity. Recalling his recent two-day visit to Sokoto State alongside his 2027 running mate, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, he described the deplorable conditions of thousands of women and children living inside the Internally Displaced Persons camp at Ramin Kura, calling it a reflection of nationwide suffering.
Looking ahead, Obi maintained a message of hope and determination, outlining key commitments if elected president:
-
To make governance measurable, accountable, and centered strictly on public welfare and productivity.
-
To tackle insecurity aggressively within the first year so displaced citizens can return home, farmers can cultivate their lands, and children can go back to school.
-
To transition Nigeria from a consumption-driven economy to a productive one by backing agriculture, manufacturing, and human capital.
-
To lead by example by spending all presidential holidays traveling across various Nigerian states—such as Zamfara, Borno, Kwara, Ebonyi, Edo, and Ekiti—rather than traveling abroad.
Concluding his address, Obi urged citizens to face the future with courage, emphasizing that building a new Nigeria requires purposeful leadership, strict public accountability, and collective refusal to accept failure as a destiny.

The Allegation: In an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Friday, Amaechi asserted that his mother was healthy prior to Tinubu’s presidency. He stated that the subsequent economic hardship, driven by policies such as the fuel subsidy removal, created a situation where his family could no longer afford the essential medication his mother needed[cite: 1].
-
Broader Criticism: Amaechi argued that the subsidy removal, which was intended to improve living conditions, has instead exacerbated the suffering of the Nigerian people[cite: 1].
-
Political Rebuttal: The presidency was quick to respond. Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to President Tinubu on Information and Strategy, dismissed Amaechi’s claims and the ADC’s electoral ambitions. -
Past Statements: Adding a layer of political irony, Onanuga also pointed to a previous interview where Amaechi himself critiqued Atiku’s electability, noting Atiku’s history of winning party primaries but failing to secure a general election victory since 1992[cite: 2].
