According to a statement released by his media aide, Stanley Nkwocha, on Monday morning, the Vice President returned home after fulfilling engagements assigned by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who had delegated him to represent Nigeria at the global summit beginning September 20.

Key Advocacy and Global Engagements

During the General Debate, Shettima delivered Nigeria’s national statement, amplifying several critical demands on the international stage:

  • UN Security Council Reforms: Nigeria strongly advocated for restructuring the UN Security Council, specifically pushing for permanent representation for the African continent.

  • Global Financing & Climate Action: The delegation pressed for enhanced access to international financial mechanisms and stronger backing for climate resilience initiatives.

  • Mineral Value Addition: Shettima participated in the Africa Minerals Strategy Group roundtable, urging a decisive shift away from raw mineral exports toward domestic processing, manufacturing, and industrial value addition.

  • Education Financing: At a co-hosted event with Italy, the Vice President reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to education as a catalyst for economic growth, backing the Global Partnership for Education’s $5 billion fundraising drive.

Diaspora Engagement and Regional Diplomacy

Beyond the main UNGA podium, Shettima engaged with the Nigerian diaspora in the United States, calling on citizens abroad to channel their investments, expertise, and networks into domestic development.

He also held strategic bilateral consultations with UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina J. Mohammed and the leadership of the ECOWAS Commission to foster closer regional cooperation and mutual diplomatic objectives.

OK Movement Draws Battle Line With NDC Over Support Group Registration

Published

on

Tensions have emerged between the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) and independent political support networks—specifically the OK Movement—following a directive by the party regarding group registrations.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

  • The NDC’s Stance: In a statement by National Publicity Secretary Osa Director, the NDC announced that support group registrations are completely free and warned its state chapters against charging fees to groups seeking registration.

  • The OK Movement’s Pushback: John Ughulu, Director-General of the OK Movement, firmly rejected the registration process. He stressed that the movement operates as an independent political entity and will not surrender its structure or internal governance to the NDC.

  • Legal and Structural Arguments: Ughulu argued that neither Nigerian law nor the NDC constitution grants the party authority over an independent organization. He vowed to resist any perceived intimidation, coercion, or attempts to dissolve or appropriate the movement’s leadership.

  • Perspective from the Kwankwasiyya Movement: Habibu Muhammed attributed the friction to the growing pains of an emerging political party attempting to set up new structures. He noted that movements like Kwankwasiyya and the Obidients have historically maintained operational independence.

  • The Ultimate Goal (The Obi-Kwankwaso Ticket): Muhammed emphasized that despite structural disagreements, all factions share the same objective: ensuring the success of the Obi-Kwankwaso ticket. He urged the NDC to foster an accommodating environment rather than imposing unnecessary restrictions, noting that many grassroots supporters align with the candidates rather than a specific political party.

“The Math Of 2027: Even Without South-West, Tinubu Can Still Win Presidency — APC Chieftain Adeyeye”

Published

Former National Assembly member and APC South-West Campaign Coordinator, Prof. Olusola Adeyeye, has asserted that President Bola Tinubu will secure victory in the 2027 general elections, maintaining that a defeat in his regional base would not halt his path to re-election.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Speaking during an appearance on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, Adeyeye drew a historical parallel to the 1999 presidential election, pointing out that former President Olusegun Obasanjo clinched the presidency despite losing his polling unit, ward, state, and entire geopolitical zone.

“No Easy Path for Opposition”

Dismissing expectations that the upcoming polls would be straightforward for rival parties, Adeyeye warned that anyone anticipating an easy victory was “suffering from self-delusion.”

Key highlights from his interview include:

  • The Obasanjo Precedent: Reaffirming that while he expects Tinubu to win the South-West comfortably, a worst-case regional loss wouldn’t disqualify a win, much like Obasanjo’s historical triumph.

  • Dismissing Regional Threats: Addressing questions regarding former Osun Governor Rauf Aregbesola and the African Democratic Party (ADC), Adeyeye noted that while Aregbesola remains a well-loved political figure, recent electoral outcomes in Osun State show that personal popularity does not automatically transfer to another platform or candidate.

  • APC Unity: The chieftain emphasized that the ruling party is working tirelessly to secure a massive victory, asserting that no current opposition configuration can unseat the APC if the party remains unified in the South-West.
